hey i am about to buy a 6000, what wireless card do you recommend if i want good connection with my home wireless unit and my school? Can i just get the one that comes with it or should i upgrade?
According to current specs, the 6000 has only 2 adapters to choose from: Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG and 2915ABG. The 2200BG supports the IEEE 802.11g wireless standard which is backward compatible with the older 802.11b, so any 802.11g adapter should be sufficient for most situations. The 2915ABG supports 802.11a in addition to 802.11g, so it will be compatible with all current wireless networks, but a public network that supports 802.11a standard is extremely rare (because it is
not compatible with 802.11b/g), so you may not have a lot of use for a 802.11a compatible adapter.
I think many people have had complaint about the 2200BG, but I'm totally satisfied with it.
I had a network/internet connection from my new Dell Inspirion 6000 (2 months) to a linksys router.
I don't know what I did wrong but suddenly it quit. I have reinstalled Intel software (for my wireless network card) but it keeps comming up with the same message: turn on the hardware switch for the radio... well, I can't find it and I have never heard of it. It should be somewhere on the keyboard, but I don't see it. Is there anyone around who can help me with this anoying issue?
I can't locate my wireless either and my light is lit. My OH can on his laptop but it's not Dell, so a signal is being sent out. We only set it up today.
I have previously seen other wireless signals appear on my screen - neighbours' etc, so it used to pick up a signal. Now it doesn't.
I'm not techy so simple advice would be great please.
