I have the same problem, trying to look in the forum before getting foreign mobile support looking into this problem. Have you contacted them yet? I hope they won't ask me to take apart my pc like they sometimes do.
My Inspiron 700m always worked with my MMC cards, but now it is not.
I have tried re-installing the drivers from Dell Support, removing the ATA/ATAPI devices and the PCI Bus in Safe Mode so that windows could reinstall them, but none of this have worked.
I have this problem with my 700m with an SD card (1GB) that it read fine previously and now will not. Same thing about "card is not formatted." Formatting does not help. Card can be read in camera or external card reader. I was hoping a driver update would help, but I see it hasn't for others.
After trying most of the tips I found here and at Dell chat support,
Dell decided to replace my mother-board. That definitely solved the problem.
They were very quick.
I'm glad this happened within the warranty period.
