It is unclear from your message whether or not other cards work in the suspect slot.  Please clarify.

That seems to offer pretty conclusive proof that there is a problem with the PCMCIA slot on the 2650.

You can reseat the card in the slot, but I know nothing about reseating the slot.  Where did you read this?  I suggest that since this is no longer a networking problem, that you post a message in teh Inspiron - General Hardware fourm.

I also have an Inspiron 2650 and have just purchased a Netgear WG511T wireless PC card. The card is not getting any power and I have been looking at several web sites & forums. The general view is that there is a fault in the power contoller. Mine is an O2Micro OZ6912. There is an updated driver on the dell downloads page which I have installed but the cardbus controller is still using PCMIA.SYS even though there is another driver called OZCRD2K.SYS which I think is the updated driver. I have logged a call with Dell but had no reply yet. If you do a search on Google for OZ6912, you should find lots of people with the same problem (but no solution as yet).

The problem with my Inspiron 2650 was finally fixed by a Dell engineer calling to replace the motherboard. I don't think re-seating the PCMIA slot will make any difference as I'm convinced it's the cardbus controller that causes the problem. I was sent a diagnostic utility by the manufacturer of the cardbus and it showed errors.

I have an rj11 jack on the back of my inspiron 2650, but no modem shows up on the phone and modems option section of the control panel. Is there a modem, and I just need software? Where do I get the software?

What's the best solution?
