make sure the firmware is up to with the router. also make sure your laptop is connecting to that router and not a neighbors. make sure your router is broadcasting your ssid. U didnt tell us what kind of wireless router u have. if its a linksys u can also buy power gain antennas for that router to increase range. Try also to move the antennas on the router. dont have them face straight up. turn 1 facing the left and the other to the right. sorta like rabbit ears

try a linksys card for the laptop. my sisters inspiron 1000 came with a dell card that slides in the side. she was having connecting issues. i made her buy a linksys slide in card. she connects 54mbps and excellent signal strength. she is about 30 ft from router. and there are 2 walls in the way to the living room to her bedroom.

Well, I'm certain that the problem is not the router as it works great with other laptops and desktops alike. I'm wondering if there is a way to maybe put in a new antenna or such inside of the computer? Thanks! :)
