I downloaded an update to the 1300 card but it turns out that this was released prior to SP2 for Windows. My laptop wouldn't let me install it since I already have SP2 installed.

on the WLAN to WEP.
Can I do it with software or do I need to get a new wireless adapter?
Thanks for any help!
If you're still using XP SP1, there are 2 patches from Microsoft that update SP1 for WPA support. You can find the links to them on this page.
Thanks for the link. I've got the WPA working now and it was easy as it could be. The hard part is actually locating the driver that you connected me to.
I tried all manner of searches on this site and I just couldn't figure it out. I guess these forums really do work!
I agree that it is often difficult to locate the correct drivers on the Dell Download site. It takes a bit of experience. For example, in your case, drivers for the "Dell TrueMobile 1300 Internal b/g MPCI" that are listed are only for people residing outside the U.S. Since this a U.S. site, that seems very strange. The correct U.S. drivers are listed under the heading "Dell Wireless (US) WLAN Network Adapter Card". I've pointed out these inconsistencies to the webmaster of the download site on numerous occassions, but my requests to fix it seem to fall on deaf ears. Oh well! I'm glad you got the problem solved.

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest drivers for the TM 1300? I have a 1300 card in my Inspiron and it works quite well with WPA.

Try the following:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R102320&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=8041&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=4&formatcnt=1&fileid=132284
It was released on 6/30/05, well after SP2.
