Hi

I have the same sort of question but no one has got back to me. I have a D410 and I guess we in the same boat. The Latitude spec says that my machine will support UXGA 1600 x 1200, but I dont think it will support WXGA (widescreen).

Wish someone confirm that for me, I guess i will have to go for the 20" 2001FP

Well that sounds promising! But I wish someone from Dell would just reply and say yes / no, and why. Hellishly expensive thing to go buy and find out it burns out the 915 chipset cos its running a widescreen or too high resolution.

I think i will have to find out someone with with the 2005 FPW and plug it.

Thanks for the link.

I found these two posts in the forum:

looks like this person's done it with the 2005FPW mon and i915 chipset. I would like to get more feedback for peace of mind, though.

Check out this from Dell's own website...

Funny, I called Dell tech support this morning and they told me that the D610 will not support it. But the person I talked to did not sound very intelligent.

Thanks again,

I had a look at my display settings in control panel last night, and it showed that, according to the Intel 915gm chipset, the second monitor has a maximum widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1200, normal size 1280 x 1024 as well as 1280 x 768 (ws).

I dont know whether that is just Microsoft windows thinking it is compatible with everything, but it seems like the Intel 915 chipset is quite powerful. Have you had a look on the intel website?

Thats the problem, you can read up specifications in user manuals etc , but I am not the most clued up when it comes to this stuff, so I would really like someone to confirm the 'fine print', will it work or not.

I have the 915g/gm Chipset which according to intel incorporates the Intel GMA 900 chipset. SO if thats anything to go by our machines should handle widescreen.

Yeah, it just may need a software update or a Windows Update. I've heard that some people can get a widescreen working after doing it.

Also, if the Inspiron 6000 with the intel graphics can support WSXGA+ (which is 1680x1050), when why can't it support an external mon with the same res? Does it matter if it is not DVI but an oldschool VGA connector?

Thanks I really appreciate you testing it out...actually I'm selling my 17" dell and will be buying the 2005FPW, that is why I wanted to know about this.

My flat mate has the 2005fpw. Pluged my laptop in and seemed to work fine. Simple plug and play 1680 x 1050. Man wish I could get one, but he leant me his 17" flat panel. Pretty sweet. But need to get a port replicator soon.

Good luck with the monitor.
