As far as preventive measures, only that you need to keep your fan area blown out and clean - also the heastsink area. It is just a minor part failure. Your remark is kind of like saying that an auto manufacterer doesn't care if you have a flat tire. Things happen. Fans are moving parts that are in a dusty, hot environment. Better luck with the new one. How much did it cost you?
Yeah it was the ball bearings. Anyone know how I could prevent this from happening again? It seems a little ridiculous to me that they would go out so soon but Dell doesn't really seem to care.
$200...Dell doesn't just let you fix the minor problem that is the ball bearings. You must replace the entire fan area. Thats basically the most frustrating part.
