Inspiron 5150 AC power/battery won't charge

Question

I ordered one of the first 5150s in 2003 and have experienced overheating problems ever since. So I recently flashed the BIOS to A35 in hopes of improving performance.   While this seems to have worked now the system ignores the battery when plugged in. It still runs off of the battery when unplugged it just never charges it. Also the battery indicator light no longer illuminates.   Any advice? I'm probably just kidding myself to think Dell will issue a recall, right?

What is the point of these forums? Are they just for us to commiserate with one another over having purchased faulty products?

Do Dell representatives ever offer any advice or suggestions via these forums?

A lot of us 5150 owners have been shafted by Dell.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5160....the power adapter/cord is plugged into the wall, the little green light is on, and the other end of the power adapter is plugged into the correct port of my computer....but it's still running on batteries.   It's worked dependably for a year, but I have already had to have gotten a replacement power adapter (this is the second one) -- they seem to last for a year and then flake out.   -Brian
