I am in the VERY same boat as you!  My order #502128581 has been in Boxing for more than 24 hours and the expected shipping date was just moved from 10/30 to 11/06.

HP is now shipping with a 3.2 HT processor and a larger screen for less money.  My old laptop has bitten the dust.  I do web development work and need desktop power along with portability to bring the work to my clients.  In other words, I am not missing out on any GAMING sessions here - this is my LIVELIHOOD.

Dell - PLEASE communicate with us on this matter and do not expect us to believe that our machines are simply waiting for "Boxes".....

Thank you!

Sorry - it was early and I fat-fingered the expected shipping date.  It was supposed to be the 30th (today) and has been moved forward 1 week.

Be that as it may, the status' they show us are simply not realistic.  For instance, they portray the logical progression as going from "Boxing" to "Shipping Prep" - where the last paragraph explaining the "Boxing" states Once the Boxing is complete, the system box is sealed and placed on the appropriate truck for shipment to our customer.  Excuse me - what is Shipping Preparation if the bloody thing is already in a box and on a truck?

I Just want the doggoned system so I can become portable once again - I feel like I am chained to this desktop (which BTW - is a Dell with a roaring processor fan that they won't replace).

HP's system is the zd7000 series Pavillion with a 17" screen.  Tipping the scales at over 9#, it would not be a joy to cart around, but imagine the presentations I could do!  :)

I am waiting to hear from HP now as to whether or not their processors are Mobile Pentium or not.  They do indicate that they are HT enabled!

I am ready to pull the trigger on another brand if something does not happen VERY soon...

Interesting... Which model of HP are you talking about? I'm thinking to buy from HP now giving the fact that your order is stuck in boxing stage from 10/20 and my is on 10/29. That is 9 days of laptops sitting in the conveyer belt in Taiwan and the fact that I know Dell is shipping laptop for the past few days to my office. Doubt it's in the boxing stage now. Compal is doing Just In Time and hard to believe it will let it sit in the conveyer belt and holding production down.

You must be getting a heck of deal for the 5150. When I purchased my Canon S45 months ago, those who got a great deal from Dell waited a couple more weeks. Some got so discouraged from waiting and eventually cancelled their order. The strange thing about my order status is it never indicate the production date. They used to display the production date as it started kitting. I'm thinking to buy HP X1000. It's a little slower machine but it's about $500 cheaper. Put another $500 later, I could get another laptop and better in 24 months. Good luck on getting 5150 if it does show up.

Boxing could be in transit from Malaysia to Nashville. Follow the thread below.

Now why couldn't Dell have just told us this in the Status Screen rather than many of us raising the issue in the forum?

BTW - In was just on the Small Business site and priced out the new 5150 with the 3.2G HT SVGA+/ 512 / 64md Video / 60g-7200HD / 1400 Truemobile.  The price is $50 cheaper than the 3.06 HT system I currently have on order while the projected ship date is a mere 10 days further out.

Since I am already chained to this bloody desk and using a loaner laptop for demos, I may just order this other system and cancel the first one unless the HP rep comes back with a delivery date that is sooner...

Re-pricing my existing order comes out to more than $200 cheaper than what I have on order.  Dell has already told me that they cannot adjust the prices - no matter what - and that all I can do is cancel my order and re-order it..  :(

So what else is new....

I get notification this morning that my system has been delayed a week because it's in Boxing.  Now 5 minutes ago, I checked order status to find out that it is now in a SHIPPED status!

Is it because I was contemplating cancelling?

I am going to order the faster processor anyways.

Any chances you could get a price matching? Follow this link to get your price differences. $200 less would be worth to wait for more 10 days. Don't know what is logic for not matching the price since it's going to cause them money to ship to u and take it back. On top of that, they need to spend considerable resources to take care the return.

Price Protection!!!

I just checked mine.. No shipped status yet. Definitely not making any sense. Mine was supposed on 9/29 didn't get shipped and yours 9/30 shipped..

Actually, it IS a desktop processor. Of course, for those of you who use a laptop rooted in one place, that won't make a difference.

Oh, how I knew it's a desktop processor: The system bus runs at 800MHz, instead of the 533MHz that Intel's website says the Mobile chip is supposed to run at.

Unless I'm totally wrong...

Hmm... about the HP. I couldn't find specific information on whether the 7000 has a desktop chip or the Mobile Pentium 4 one. Can you verify?

I hope mine ships soon as well (I got a 5150 as well)... It's been in boxing for almost 48 hours.  I was recently told it was in Nashville, so I hope I'll get it tomorrow!!!! (Crosses fingers)...  Maybe mine will ship soon too...

Hello.

From my talking with a few different dell representitives I have found mixed feelings on the matter.  Either way, as it does turn out, the 'boxing' stage involves shipment from Malasia.  I inquired about that after I was in the boxing stage for 3 days.  Also, the one week extension on your shipping date is standard.  I got this bit of info off a moderator post in the forum.. can't remember which one off hand though.  Basically, even if your estimated ship date is wrong by 3 seconds, they are going to move it up a week, even though 2 more seconds after that, your computer could ship out.

I ordered my 5150 on oct 14 and estimated ship date was the 29th.  It was moved to Nov 6, but now it is shipped.  I advise that if you have not checked the status of your order, you do so now.

The friendly CS rep I chatted with added overnight shipping to my order since i had the 3-5 day originally because the estimated date was missed.  So yeah, I hope to have mine tomorrow ^_^

We shall see and time shall tell.

Does it go straight from "boxing" to "shipping"?  I am just curious; maybe, if they hurry, it can be on a plane tonight and ready to send to my eager hands in the morning.  I need to stop checking my order status though..... every two seconds is not normal!!!   I believe it was an old English proverb that once said, "A watched pot never boils!"  Well, I'll stop watching the pot, as long as it boils VERY soon!!  I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Respectfully (and not watching the pot....... I mean laptop)

Mine went straight from boxing to "In Transit" which occurs after shipping.  I didn't see anything between it.  Dell doesn't get the tracking number for a while updated on the page though, so I called them and they told me per phone. ^__^

what kind of shipping do you have and when was your original estimated ship date?
