I also have a 5160 and I'm not sure the answer, but since I don't see others, I'll raise a couple of questions that I hope may be useful. Or maybe you have figured out an answer by now, hopefully.

I haven't tried transferring songs or anything, but why did you use the safely remove device procedure? Normally as I understand it, USB is plug and play. You can plug something in and it is supposed to be recognized. When you unplug it, its not found. The computer should be able to deal with that ok without running any special procedure.

Now sometimes it isn't totally plug and play, but I've connected and disconnected different USB devices, including a USB hub to which I plug my keyboard, mouse and printer as well as my Palm hot sync cable as well as a travel or thumb drive and I've never used that procedure. You should be able to just disconnect the device. You should not have to do anything like running a procedure to remove it.

My guess is that in using the procedure you may have somehow not only removed that device but maybe, based on what you have said, the drivers that allow it to connect to USB devices. You might try looking up that topic under Help and see if you can find any more info on just what that procedure is supposed to be used for.

I'm guessing that you probably need to reinstall drivers for USB or something so that the computer can again communicate with USB devices.

It can also be helpful if when choosing a message subject if you are more specific. You might go back and edit your post including the title to something instead of just USB problems (which is pretty broad) to something like, ran device removal procedure, now can't communicate to USB devices. That might catch someone's eye who would have a more specific and knowledgeable answer about what to do about it.

Also, my guess is that your problem is not specific to the 5160, but rather is related more to software drivers that work with the operating system. I'm guessing you are running Windows XP but maybe not. That info would also be helpful.
