Kevin,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Please attempt the following steps to find a solution to your issue:

  1. Verify that the AC adapter brick is receiving power.
    • Unplug the adapter from the wall and the system. Wait 5 seconds. Plug the adapter back into the wall. You should get a steady green light on the adapter. Make sure the adapter is plugged directly into the wall; not through a surge protector, UPS, or extension cord.
    • Try another wall outlet in another room or verify the outlet works with a lamp. You can also verify a bad AC adapter by swapping it out with another one, if available - such as one for use with the port replicator.
  2. Check the connections.
Make sure the AC adapter connector has a tight fit and the connector on the system does not have any pins that are pushed in or bent.

I've already done all of this. I have been using this outlet for a month now. No problems experienced until this morning.

Check the wiring where it goes into the laptop...between the cylendrical resistor and the moulded on plug itself...these are prone to deterioration/faulty manufacture...often 'jiggling' the wire at the point specified will allow current to pass to the laptop...but if when you find the position that allows current then it's hard to hold it there and use the computer at the same time!...The whole power supply should be a warranty return if you find the fault as above....DellBobT always forgets to mention this!

Received the new power supply, same results.  Still no green light on the laptop and it won't power on when plugged in without the battery.  I have made arrangements to service of the laptop itself.

I ended up sending the laptop back to have the main system board replaced.  That did the trick.
