My BIOS is the most current for the Inspiron 1000 (A08).  Thanks for the suggestion.

I assume that if this only occurs with the new battery there is some fault in the onboard charging unit. If still under warranty, i would get it looked at.

All I know is that we also have Inspiron 1150 and from the day we got it we have been having power issues.  The actual Power socket where you plug in the adaptor has been loose from day one and has had a problem charging.  But we thought well no big deal.  Well over time it has now became an extreme problem.  Not only do we have personal stuff on our laptop but we use it for business as well which has became a huge problem.  Once you plug in the adaptor the computer will not even read the adaptor now unless you wiggle the power socket on the back of the laptop.  The power socket on the back of the laptop was loose from day one but now is basically just barely sittling in there.  So once you do get it to start charging you can't move the laptop at all or the charge will disconnect the whole computer.  If you do get the battery to charge at all it only last about 30 min since no good connection is being established.  We have a friend who has worked for Dell on the business side and told us to contact dell and they should replace the laptop that it would probably need a new motherboard.
Well, I've contacted Dell and they did say it needed a new motherboard but they will not replace it.  Apparantly we have two different warranty.  The Rapid Response ended in July and the technical support ends in Jan 07, 2006.  So apparently the Rapid Response is the one that will replace it.  I have know idea but it makes no sense to me.  A new motherboard is basically a whole new computer.  And I'm not making payments on something that isn't even a year old and doesn't work.  Unbelievable.  So we are still going round and round with Dell trying to get this fixed before Jan 07.  Sorry but under a year should be fixed by any manufacturer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:smileymad: So needless to say we have several items that we have purchased from Dell and we will not be purchasing any further items!!!
Please keep me posted on your situation as well.  You would think if enough people complain about it they will fix the issue since this seems to be a very very common problem.  Ok I'm off my soap box.  LOL   :smileywink:

It is indeed a very common problem, But I am for sure out of the warranty period. My Inspiron 1000 is giving me the same problem, btu I've had it for about 18 months so I can't get it fixed for free by Dell. But I can Fix it myself, and I Hope you guys have the small amount of experienced necessary to do it yourself. Here is a link on what might be the problem witht he motherboard part:
