Can you check on the exact message you get? "Cannot play DVI-D" is probably close, but I'd be curious if that's the exact message you get. And when during bootup do you get it? For example, before or after Windows loads? What's in the background when it displays?

When connected via DVI, you should be able to adjust Brightness but not Contrast from the OSD. Perhaps the two issues are related... let's see if we can figure out what the first one is before we tackle the second - unless someone else out there has an idea on that.

Craig,

Thanks for the reply. You are right, I can adjust brigthness via OSD in a sence that it is allows me to; but I do not see much difference between 100 and 0.
As for the exact bootup message, I will tell you later as soon as I get home

Ok, then from a brightness standpoint what you are seeing is normal. Most people (including myself) set the brightness in the OSD to zero, as anything else is way too bright and do the 'real' adjustments from the video card / monitor Display properties.

Here we go

After the Windows XP loading screen where these blue blocks running and right before the login screen the monitor turns black and the message in the center appears in white:

" 2: DVI-D

Cannot display this mode"

This is exactly how it looks

Ok... then what happens? What do you need to do so that it can display something? Anything special?

Does your video card support the native resolution of the monitor - 1680x1050? Curious if everything is listed fine under Display Properties, like the name of the monitor and video card are correct, and what resolution / color depth you are running your desktop at.

Nothing. I should do nothing. After this message the login screen appears and everything seems to work fine. I run the native resolution 1680 x 1050 x 32 and everything seems to work fine. But I still wonder why this message pops up

Odd. I did manage to find someone with a very similar problem:

Found someone else that 'fixed' the issue by switching to analog rather than DVI input. Or this with another monitor:

Not sure if any of that really helps. For grins, you might want to see if there is an updated BIOS available for your system.

Craig,

Thanks a lot for the links. Indeed, the problems there look very similar to mine. The oddest thing is that the problem has now disappeared itself. I have not changed anything but the message does not pop up anymore.
Another problem is that the system does not remember the Brightness and Contrast settings of my videocard so I have to re-adjust it each time after booting and logging in. But I think it has something to do with McAfee security center because after logging in it starts OK with the last session setting but after McAfee's been loaded it goes back to the default setting and becomes too bright again. I am going to do clean and accurate re-install of the video drivers and hope it helps
Thanks for the help!
