Welcome to the Forum,

{Link to} SpeedswitchXP - CPU frequency control for notebooks running Windows XP

The above is another excellent free utility for your Dell from the same folks who gave you FanGUI,
It will give better control over your CPU's performance and has the best Power Management "User Policy"
available.

I9kfangui Version 2.2.2 is here!
Notebook Forums {Link}

The above is an excellent modification to FanGUI which will give seperate fan control for your #2 (GPU)
Fan by Video Card Temperature. (note, it adds +5c to GPU reading to allow for error in i9300's reading)
but it works better than the I8K version in all other respects.

edit:- I should add I am using Version 2.2.1.03b {here}

and that there is also a newer Beta 2.3 build 20 - Added 11/7/2005
and there will soon be a "Stand-alone" Release Version of 2.3

That Forum is heavy with Gaming Experts and if you look on their "Centrino" Board, you will see that a
Precision M70 (a D810 Clone with different Video System) would be preferred for gaming.

I just bought a Latitude D810 with a Radeon x600 *specifically* for the purpose of playing EverQuest on the road, and I am unable to do so. ...snip... considering the laptop will not perform the only function it exists to execute.

Thanks in advance!

For my needs, the Dell Latitude (or Precision Portable) would be the only way to go, but from the above
statement, you would be happier (and spend less) for an i9300! :) :) :)

After spending all day and night looking for the answer to my problem (was before you posted man, thanks a lot for the response btw!) I discovered the problem.

What I had to do was max out all the graphical options for EQ. Enable all shaders and AntiAliasing, highest quality textures, farthest clip plane, to make it rquire enough of the CPU to kick it up to max speed. Pretty easy fix for a problem that seemed to doom me lol.

BTW, I got the Latitude because it was an $1800 laptop in the outlet store for $1260. *wink*

Thanks again!

Glad it is now working for you, I don't even know any "...driver-cleaning utility ..."
much less "...graphical options..." but I make good use of CleanSweep and GoBack.:)

Yes, GREAT DEAL looked like a bunch of leftover production for a large corporation,
they were even equipped with WUXGA! A very powerful, high quality portable.

Even after a telephone order to Dell Spare Parts for WiFi and Bluetooth, you would
still be way ahead. No clue if you could install that GPU for the M70's though.
