Hi,

They cant be tightened as such. You may have to replace the MBD. A PCMCIA card may be a solution to think about. What model do you have ?

I think it's a C40. My son is using it for uni - but when he comes home he needs to use the USB wireless thingie and it keeps losing the connection. One of the reasons I replaced the machine was cos the USB was unstable.

Hi,

It may be a C640 . The MBD wont be cheap, I would still look at a PCMCIA card.

Are you saying put in a card that will be the wireless connection? Or is there such a thing as a card with USB connections? That would be wonderful - he also has problems with other peripherals, obviously!

Thanks for the advice, Chris

Hi,

I'm not sure what model you have, but the later ones had a special slot for a wireless card. The slot / s on the side are for a PCMCIA card, ( credit card size ) and you can get these in wireless, or USB. If you get a USB2 card, it will be much faster. A motherboard will be hundreds of dollers, a PCMCIA card a lot less. Before you buy anything clarify your model and make sure any purchase will work with it.

I have the same problem.  My computer is a Latitude C640.  I am using my slot for a wirelss internet card.

Is it possible to upgrade the port to a 2.0 port?  Thanks!

That's what we did. Bought a 2-slot USB PCMCI card from PC World over the Christmas break. £29.99 (but around £18 on the Web). It works really well.
