I think NemesisDB may be mistaken: you can upgrade your video card with any compatible card. For the 5150 this means any of the AGP Graphics Processors--Mobility Radeon 9000/9200/9600/9700/9800; 32MB-256MB.
I can't say as to what problems you may have with them, e.g. if a 9800 with 256MB will overheat you computer in a matter of minutes, but for $378 Dell is willing to send a tech guy over to my place to upgrade my 9000/64MB to a 9700/128MB.
You really seem certain, so I'll take you word for it. Yet I've spoken with three different techs at Dell now and each of them is ready to install a MR 9700/128MB card in my Inspiron 5150.
Have you ever tried to put one of these cards into this notebook? If not, how are you so certain.
if you find a way to do it, you'll be a hero to all of us :)
you won't though, cause it won't fit ... even some cards that do fit don't get detected (in the 5100 for instance).
dell cards are made specific for each base notebook chasis. and no high end ones were ever made for the 5150. the cards you're talking about are tiher desktop cards or are for other notebooks
I've just called Dell, again. I have been assured that there are no compatibily issues with upgrading the Inspiron 5150 with a Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB video card. They say it will fit and that the processor/chipset will accept it.
I was wondering if you had any luck with Dell upgrading your card. You are one of the few hopes we 5150ers have left before we have to shell out more cash on a new lappy. Let us know what the situation is when you have a chance.

Call Dell for parts. The MR 9700 is #U1202.
Good luck--p.f.norris

norris, you are mistaken. while there is a m9000 64mb for the 5150 it's not really better than the OPs original card.
as for all the others you list, they will not physically fit in the machine, nor will they likely be detected by the bios.
