1905FP stuck in Power Save with DVI.

Question

I've searched and searched and seen a few people with the same problem, but I've yet to find a solution.  I've been thrown around between about ten people on the service support lines and haven't gotten anywhere except disconnected multiple times and hung up on hold for 30 minutes plus.  Anyway, yesterday morning, my 1905fp monitor would not respond--it wouldn't come out of power-save mode.  I leave my PC on all the time.  It worked fine the night before, went to bed, woke up and it wouldn't come out of power save mode.  I've tried reconnecting and unplugging everything multiple times, and it still won't respond.  The monitor will work fine with VGA hook up's, but I'd much prefer to go with the digital.  The self-test is working with digital which leads me to believe the monitor is fine (its only about two months old though.)  Just whenever I try hooking up the DVI, it will not come out of power save mode.  This is the first time its ever happened to me.  Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks in advance. Yes.  Originally, the only thing hooked up was the DVI line.  I've tried disconnecting that and reconnecting and tried about everything (yes the monitor was on digital input mode too).  What it basically all comes down to is that all the hookup's seem to be working, as the computer does recognize when the monitor is hooked up (beeps when I power on the monitor or power off, just no video response), the monitor itself just keeps telling me 'power save mode, press any key on keyboard or move mouse'.

Howdy,   Just wanted to chime in on this subject as well, since I'm as eager to find a solution as the OP.   I set my XPS 400 system up a couple of days after Christmas.  The monitor I'm on is the 2005FPW, 20.1' Digital Widescreen.  I used the DVI cable for about a week to a week and a half.  Then the exact same problem the OP described suddenly appeared.  VGA cable works fine, DVI cable says the same 'Power Save Mode' message.   My system is similar to the OP's:   XPS 400 Pentium Dual-Core 2.8GHz nVidia GeForce 6800 (with the latest drivers) Running on the native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor

I was having the same issue with my XPS 400 using an ATI X600. It is no longer doing this but I have no idea what triggered it to stop. It just stopped refusing to awaken.

To confirm, if I connected the VGA cable, the problem didn't occur and I could awaken the LCD. If I use the DVI, it wouldn't allow me to wake it up.

Also, if I leave the machine with the DVI cable connected for a couple hours, the machine will reboot itself. It doesn't BSOD, write out dump info, nothing, just reboots. This is occurring despite the fact that the sleep mode issue is gone. If the monitor is connected using the VGA cable, the PC won't reboot.

Very strange!!!

I've been on hold with Dell Support for close to half an hour, will post if come across a solution.

Just a follow-up... after being on hold for 1.5 hours, I finally got a guy who was able to see the unusual problems we are having. This follow was in the states for sure.

Dell is sending me a new MB, power supply, and video card to swap out myself. We'll see if that helps. I'll switch each part one at a time to see what helps. Check back!

I had the same problem with an X700 video card. Your best bet is to take the plunge and upgrade your video card.

Actually, I received a call from HP yesterday about a potential issue with their (and other) wide screen DVI monitors such as their F2105 like I have. The rep said they are investigating a problem with the DVI interface. They actually called me back 3 times to follow up!!!

As an aside, the swap of graphics card, power supply, and motherboard did no good. On the up side for Dell, the last person I spoke with was very helpful and did simply admit to being stumped. He did say that he'd keep an eye on the ticket I had opened.

Replacing the graphic card with another of the same type probably won't do any good. The graphic card need to be swapped for a different model.

I'm raising my hand too.   I'm having the same issues with my 1905FP DVI not working, just reporting Digital Input in Power Save Mode.  Using the VGA connector works fine.  The DVI had worked fine when I had the montior connected to a GeForce Ti 4200 AGP.  I've built the following new system.   Biostar TForce 6100 Motherboard AMD 3800+ Dual Core 1 GB OCZ Platinum Memory XFX GeForce 6600GT PCIe Enermax Liberty 400w Power Supply   After installing the 6600GT, I connected the DVI cable and appears to work fine during boot up, until Windows gets to the end of progress screen, just prior to the Welcome screen, then screen goes to black and reports the Power Save Mode.   I've tried most everything and now at a complete loss.

Yup, me too.

Brand new 1905FP. The monitor will go into power save while using DVI, not VGA. It happens sparadically, anywhere from less than a minute after booting to not happening for several hours. Once it happens though, it seems to happen much sooner the next time after resetting. To get out of power save mode I have to remove the DVI cable and power cable for about 5 min. When in the power save mode the OSB is unavailable.

I'm pretty sure I have turned off all power saving functions on the Mother board and in the OS (Windows MCE)

I took the monitor to work where the department's computer specialist tried it out on his otherwise stable Dell system and the same thing happened to him. His monitor is also a 1905FP and it doesn't have the problem.

One other thing I have noticed is that when I switch between USERS in the OS there may be a blank screen for several seconds during which the yellow power save light goes on for a couple of seconds and then the regular green "on" light comes back on, or not.

Sure would like a solution without spending hours on the phone with Dell's "help"

Just a quick update. I pulled the ATI X600 out of my XPS 400 and installed a Gigabyte 7800 GT nVidia card. That rssolved my issues totally. The system has been stable for over a week now.

I had an X700 and problems too. I replaced with an X1600 and it's working great now. Get rid of the x700 or x600 cards. they don't seem to like driving native DVI.

Count me in with the rest of you. I have a Dell 4600 with the nVideo GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. I just bought a Gateway FPD2185W widescreen monitor. It works if I run it in VGA mode but not on DVI. Booting the computer with the monitor on DVI simply reports 'No Signal' on the monitor, then it goes into power save mode (yellow led).

Me too.  ATI X300 with a 1905FP.  Here's my post from another thread, where someone kindly re-directed me here:   ------------------------------------------- Here's my PC configuration:   OS: XP Por SP2 Monitor: Dell 1905FP Video Card: ATI Radeon X300 w/ latest ATI drivers MSI Motehrbaord with Nvidia Nforce 4 Ultra Chipset AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU 1 GB RAM   I have started having a problem with my video.  Sometime after booting, and the time can vary from 30 seconds to 8 hours, the monitor loses the DVI signal and the power LED turns orange.  The PC conitnues to operate and will respond to keystrokes.   To test whether the problem is the video card or the monitor, I tried the following:   1. I connected a NEC 1545 LCD as the primary montor with the Dell as secondary. Whent he DVI on the FP1905 died, the NEC continued to operate.  This only proves that the VGA connector on the video card is working.   2. When I conenct the Dell directly via VGA, the monitor does not experience a problem.  This is further evidence that the VGA port on the card is fine, and suggests that VGA input on the monitor is also fine.   3. I used a DVI-to-VGA adapter at the video card, and ran a VGA cable to the VGA input on the FP1905.  Again, no problem, suggesting that the DVI input on the monitor may be the problem.   I suppose the DVI cable could be at fault, but that seems very unlikely.   -------------------------------------------------------   Looks the same problem everyone else is having, which is oddly reassuring.
