Could be physical damage to the connector. This model is a very hot-running system, and hot-running electronic equipment usually translates into short service lifespans.
when u say "hot running" u mean it gets physically hot...cuz it actually did that alot. if that is the case with this model, do you think its worth replacing the main board or should i just avoid ispirons and get a new pc?
(thanks by the way for responding...your being more helpful than other sources i've been to.)
If it were my system, I would not put $500 into repairing it. You'll get at best a 90-day warranty for your money, and the problem will likely continue.
The use of the desktop P4 and mobile P4 at high speeds in notebooks was a big mistake for all the major notebook vendors - the stress on the internal parts in enormous.
Dell has taken a lot of flak for the problem - but Sony, HPaq, Toshiba and others have all had problems with overheating with these systems.
sorry to keep buggin i promise this is the last question.
say if i were to get a labtop similar to this one, or get this one fixed (cuz thats what my dad wants to do actually), what would be the best way to prevent something like this from happening again? just don't overheat it? when u feel it's to hot turn it off and let it cool?

I would give serious consideration to selling it for parts and replacing it with a newer, cooler-running Pentium-M based system.
