Why don't you know the Admin password??? Aren't you the owner of the notebook and the person that set the password?? Contact the person that does know the password.

Or call Dell provide proof of ownership and they will give you a masteer password to remove the BIOS passwords. If you can't provide proof of ownership then you have a door stop.

yes, I am the original owner, NO I DID NOT PUT IN A PASSWORD!!  I gave them everything they needed to prove ownership and they say "we don't know how to do it" or "we don't have that information"   Arghhhhhh!!!!!!

This laptop failed once before and they put in a new hard disk and that wouldn't work until I called up to get the Hard Disk Authentication Password to unlock the hard disk.  I never tried to change anything in the BIOS ever!!!   All I need is the Master Password to override the BIOS and let my laptop boot from the WinXP CD .... simple request

They also had to replace the NIC card once too. Everything was covered under warranty (new HD and NIC card) but somehow this password got set and I don't have a clue what it is.

The Tech Support people don't even understand what I am asking for!!!   They just read answers from a book or manual, I need someone that understands my question but after 7 phone calls I still haven't found a person at Tech Support that even knows what the heck I am asking for!!!

Please someone from Dell - read my original post and point me at the right person (or phone number) so I can get this resolved - thanks in advance.

No one from Dell monitors these forum except to delete posts that do not follow forum guide lines.

Your only option is to call tech support and GET the master password, there is NO other option. Once you do that WRITE IT DOWN so in case you ever need it again you will have it.

Thanks for the info - I went here because the people that answer the phones were not really helping me.  I did try 7 times on the phone with Tech Support.

I will try again to get the Master Password but the Tech Support people don't understand what I want (they think I am asking for the Boot Password or Admin Password) - or - they say they don't have it.  I can understand that it is not something that Dell would supply to low level Tech Support, but I can't get to High Level Tech Support.  Arghhhhhh!!!!!

Try a different Harddrive. On the 8100, you must have a harddrive that is recognized by BIOS or your CD Drive will not be recognized either, as it is slaved to the Harddrive on that model
