Im not sure how the layout of the 1100 is but if you can find the small switch that activates the screen (should be right under the hinge at the back) or try closing and reopening the lid it should recover. Also setting your laptop to not standby when closing the lid would be a good idea (you can use fn+1 to do it manually)
