Are you dead set on PCMCIA?  If not, I have used the USB to Serial "dongles" from compusa and radioshack simultaneously with no issues on my iXPS thru an external USB hub and directly attached.  Granted, I'm using it to talk with legacy network devices (like  Routers, I multiplexers, channel banks and CSUs) but it works well for me.
