Click sound

Question

Hello, i've got my new inspiron 8200 a few day's ago. As i'm working with it, i noticed that there came random click-sounds like playing a windows wav file of the sound configuration from the notebook. So i disabled the winXP sounds completly but the clicks are still there. Next step was looking in the bios if there where some configurations that will disable these annoying clicks and as i'm in the bios i hear these clickin again. So that is the evidence that it is not an OS Problem. I belive the sound is playing when i get access to the hard-drive under some special conditions. can anybody help me? Regards Yamaha-red

The noises you are hearing are perfectly normal for a laptop hard drive.

I have this same problem.  It is associated with utilizing the hard drive, but also associated with a delay in accessing the drive - especially when browsing My Computer - if a cd is present I will have to wait for the cd to spin up before I can even access the hard disk drive.  It sounds as though it is coming from the speakers - like some sort of conflict or problem in the the bios.  I am using Windows 2000 SP4

Check the Dell Downloads for the 8200. There are a couple of firmware upgrades to quiet noisy drives. You may have one of them.
