Thanks, yes it does it has Norton, one of the others in the network has McAffe, and other has nothing, I am thinking of doing a roll back as I can go back to an as new restore point, my son has an old NEC laptop running Win 2000 and it will share with the other two which are on Win 98 and XP Home
MRF4700 thanks again, I tried that and no joy, I disabled both of them...would it be worth trying a rollback it woulnt be great trouble,,,, it works for internet....it is filesharing is the problem...I suppose its a matter of keep trying,....but I just dont want to go back to Dell and have egg on face
I've never had an experience where a system restore(if that's what rollback means?) fixes this problem. If I understand your previous posts correctly, only your I6000 can't share files over your network? All other computers on the network can, correct?
You did not elaborate which version of Norton you have so, I'm going to assume that it's Norton Internet Security because, Dell usually sends a trial version of that program with their newer systems from the factory. Did you configure NIS to recognize your home network when you initially connected it?
Thanks again MRF4700, well I thought a rollbacl/restore might help a wayward command, it is the free Dell 60day Norton Internet Security, and yes I have two other compupers and an old laptop on the network and they work /fileshare fine, at this stage I dont know what is or was set or what way. I would normally take a thing out of the box turn it on and see if it all lights up, if not I would have a look at the book, and if still no joy consult my local experts, in this case all efforts so far have failed, I will try and go over the whole procedure again at the weekend, is it possible it it could be a hardware problem
I don't yet have enough info to determine if this is a hardware problem. Best to exhaust all troubleshooting before running out to buy new hardware.
Try this? On the I6000, Click Start > Run > type cmd in window and click Okay > At Command Prompt screen type ipconfig/all at flashing cursor > Take note of the IP address and subnet mask for the wireless network adapter?
Next, Click Start > Programs > Norton Internet Security > At NIS window left click Personal Firewall > at lower right corner of NIS window click Configure button > At Personal Firewall window, click the Networking tab > check to see that your network IP address and subnet mask show up in the Trusted Zone? Since you are using a Linksys router, I would imagine it should say IP address 192.168.1.XXX. subnet 255.255.255.0? or something like that?
If you still experience no joy? Try setting up the I6000 thru the wireless network setup wizard in control panel? Use the manual network setup option, not flash drive?
Well MRF4700 we have Joy to report, last night I went through the set up again with the wizard, and this morning I done as you said with Norton, and a what a joy to see the other machines come up on the screen everything is working fine now printers and all,,,,, so the trusted zone was the problem zone.
So all is well that ends well,,,,, and thanks once again for your help its very much appreciated Best wishes to you and yours

Does your I6000 have a third party software firewall enabled (Norton Internet Security, McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.), that the other systems don't have?
