You got a bad disk. My UT2003 installed without any problems. Hopefully your problem gets resolved soon. Merry Christmas to all.
thx had friend got ut2003 cds got 2nd one from him but it didnt like it then reput my 2nd cd worked.... with ut2003 gpu get 90c been played N4S UG ALOT for 2 hrs today offline runs with no slow down will test it online.... + 8600 still got xp came with full of dell stuff so soon do clean install think will run faster.. look like everyone having prob with COD game was going get it but didnt maybe to test pc.... the demo run great on my 8000
you still didn't answer my question. where are you getting that the temps are reversed? (btw, I was looking at a teardown sheet, not the actual inside of my lappy (it is a bit dated however)). and another thing - the GPU appears to be exausting to the CPU sink ; i see the separate intake (directly under the screen on the right side next to the hinge), but no separate exaust. lots of heat transfer will result.
I have the 8600 with the 128 mb radeon 9600 pro utra whatever, and having the same problem ; ((. Never had good experience with dell, years ago ordered a dell for xmas, but came with a cracked motherboard! just got a different brand. What kind of "#1 support" is this if they won't even admit there is a problem?? Dell reminds of Sony, I'm taking advantage of the satisfaction guarantee >:(. If I never buy a dell again it will be too soon. That should give you an Idea of how unhappy I am with Dell's so-called service.
There is no visible intake for the GPU fan. It just draws air from under your keyboard. You can feel air moving arround the 0-9 keys when the fan is at high speed. The exhaust is located right under the lcd screen next to the hinge.
GPU and DIMM temp in fangui are definitely switched. I have the 52.16 drivers from nvidia now who monitor GPU temp and automatically underclock the GPU when it gets too hot. The temperature advertised there is the same as the DIMM temp under fangui.
But godim, how do you know its not the nvidia driver reading the temperature incorrectly and not i8kfanGUI? You have no way of knowing, therefore an intermediary program is desirable . More proof is needed for myself to be satisfied.

Actually one under LCD is intake, but it might draw some air from under keyboard as well.
If you look at that picture you'll see narrow slit with heatsink visible through it above LPT port, this is the exhaust
And regarding GPU and DIMM temperature being swapped, just do a little observation on how relatively constant and independent from GPU fan state *GPU* temperature is and how fast *DIMM* temperature goes up when GPU does heavy 3d tasks and how quickly it cools off when 2nd fan (gpu) kicks in.
No activity since 5/1, does it mean that a solution has been found? I would like to know if it's common or if I should ask for a video card replacement from Dell...
I have good news. I have no problems with mine and I've been playing COD alot. It runs cool and quiet. I installed the latest ATI drivers from Dell and all is well.
Are there newer drivers than the ones that came with the laptop? My performance isn't as great as I'd like in Halo, but Unreal 2003 and everything else run's GREAT!!
Also, Halo ran good for a few days, then all of a sudden half the graphics went out and it looked like an old polygon game from the 50's. I tried re-installing it and it still didn't help. Has anyone else had this problem?
