Edit, The battery has no charge , as windows says its at 0%. But the computer still runs with the ac pluged in. The light for the battery/charge on the laptop blinks constantly 4 times orange and 1 time green. What does that mean? The laptop doesnt power on without the battery in it, but it doesnt charge. But still powers on as long as the AC is in.
Hello, the laptop doesn't turn on now with or without the battery in it. The green light on the AC adapter is on, but there are no lights on anywhere on the laptop. The batterys LED flash its 1,3,5 LED three times.
I just took the memory out and switched its places, but to no avail.
I'm pretty sure that when the lights flash like that on the battery (when you take it out and push the charge indicator button) it means the battery is toast. I'd say time for a new battery.
Now I have absolutely no clue why your computer won't turn on when plugged into the AC adapter only. Somebody here will know, there is alot of knowledge on this board. Just give them a little time to reply.
The battery is bad, and the MBD sounds like it is also faulty. If you decide to replace it, be aware that there are many different part numbers for it, and not all work with all speed CPU's.
You cant go faster than 1 gig in that model. The C640 will, but they are P4. The CPU type in your machine was a different socket to the later P3 that was fitted to the C610. The memory was also different. It may have been a typo.
I just found online that some of dells AC adapters were being or had been recalled, the part number of mine is 09364U. Could this AC adapter be the cause of my troubles because the mother board is the same part number but not the same one.
The adapter was working earlier ( from what you have said ), but could have since failed. Are you able to swap with another to see ? If you can put a charged battery in it may help. Make sure the CPU is engaged, and the memory is seated. There are a number of adapter models that will work. Have you tried with the adapter only, no battery ?

Hi,
Bad batteries can do strange things. Take the battery out and see if you can boot from the adapter.

Its the same part or so it implies. But it also said this motherboard could accept a 2GHZ processor. Is that incorrect?

What does it mean with CPU engaged? The CPU is in its slot and is in place via the sort of screw turn tihng.
