Sound like a loose connector going to the display. Look in your manual. It explains how to disassemble to get at the connector. It's in the replacing parts section. If you bought the computer with the right credit card your warranty would be extended another year. Yours may do so. Check it.
Thanks for your prompt reply Ted, I will give it a try (given some guaranteed quiet time so as to concentrate, it'll be a first for me). Couldn't find info in manual but plenty of detailed instructions in other threads in this forum.
I have an AOL Visa card from Chase. It also gives me free AOL time for every purchase I make. I have replaced a defective part on another DELL computer using the extended warranty with the card.
