This forum, for example, does not seem to respond when I increase the Internet Explorer font.

Hi,

Seems no one knows or won't care to share :(

Reducing resolution worked for earlier monitor but seems don't work for wide screen.  My first attempt is to reduce resolution but quality turned out to be unbearable.

Can someone answer this?  I'm having the same problem.  I have a problem reading certain programs even at 1280x800 on my XPS m140.  When I increase the dpi, fonts don't look right anymore.  Is there a comprehensive (one stop) solution?  I would be willing to decrease the resolution, but the Dell laptop display doesn't seem to offer a widescreen resolution less than 1280x800.

Thanks in advance.

Guys,

Try the suggestions in the following message and see if the display improves: LCD Display

ok, to start with just right click on the desktop and select properties, then click the appearance tab, then under fonts select extra large. That's not going to do much for your browser fonts though right? I would suggest downloading Firefox you can simply change the font size by holding the control key and then hit the plus sign. You'll be able to change the font size so that you can read the text fonts. What you won't be able to read are images . it only resizes text, not images with text. Best of luck...

The M140 does have a display problem which makes the fonts look blurry and out of focus.  Reading the forums, it appears other have the same problems.  I can't use mine for more than an hour without getting a headache.  I have a replacement coming to me and I'll see if it's right or not.  If not, I'll be sending both back for a full refund.  Disappointing as everything works great except for the display.  Hard to imagine the M140 is part of the XPS premier family and they have problems like this :(

Hi,

For the blurry problem, it can be easily resolved (although it should not have in the first place) by the following method:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
Main
UseHR= dword:00000001

I did have similar problem when I first received the system and someone from this forum has shared this tip.

After change the registry value, it should be fine.

Is this in the registry and how do you get there for the edit?  What is it about these lines that change the performance of the graphics card?

Hi,

Yes, this is the registry value to edit and you can reach there by the following steps:

(1) In Windows, click "Start" and "Run";

(2) Type (without quotation marks) "regedit" and click Open;

(3) When Registry Editor prompts, follow the following path to find the registry value:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
Main
UseHR= dword:00000001

(4) When you see UseHR, double-click it and you should be prompted to see its value.  Make sure the default value base is selected as Hexadecimal;

(5) You may wish to back up the original value first before making the change.  If so, use Export under File to backup the original value;

(6) Change the default value from 1 to 0;

(7) Press F5 and refresh the value, and close Registry Editor,

(8) Restart Windows.

For the VGA card performance, I really don't know if it will make any difference.  In my own experience, I don't see any differences.

Hope this helps.
