Same kind of problem here, though I have not flashed the new firmware to the bluetooth card.  I have the Inspiron 9200 and the Windows Drivers instal properly and everything, but since they apparently don't work to connect a bluetooth headset, I've tried the Toshiba drivers as well as the ones here on the Dell web site for the 350.

Looking for some tips.  I'll post anything that works, by the way.

I have the same problem with a Inspiron 9400, I recently bought a Bluetooth 350 and installed. When i turned on the computer windows XP (pro with sp2) it automatically found it and installed it's own drivers. I tried to install the drivers that came with it and it updates the firmware, and when it goes to install the Stack it keeps asking me to press FN f2 over and over.

How do i re install the old drivers? It's not in my Device manager anymore.

Hi,

I had the same problem and found that why the Dell Bluetooth installation is keep prompting to press Fn+F2 is because the Toshiba Bluetooth drivers are not being installed by Windows. The supplied tosrfusb.inf in the driver installation is causing the problem.

How to fix:
1. Uninstall any previous bluetooth stack installations. Uninstall all bluetooth devices from Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device manager. Do not reboot.
2. Unzip the dell bluetooth driver installation.
3. Look for tosrfusb.inf in the 2KXP\Windows\inf folder.
4. Add the following line in blue into the inf file:
....
Class=USB
ClassGUID={36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
....
5. Right click on the modified tosrfusb.inf and select "Install". (This basically makes a copy to the C:\Windows\inf system folder)
5. Reinstall the Dell Bluetooth drivers again. You should see new hardware device detected as "Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth internal card" and the driver installation complete.
6. Enjoy!  :)

So I tried this but it did not work at first.  I searched the board a little more and found there is a new Driver to download with software and firmware.  The number is R117967.  I downloaded this one, modified the file ini file as indicated above and IT WORKED!!!!

Finally after 8 months I can use my BT headset thanks for the post!:smileyvery-happy:

You're welcome. :smileyhappy: Yeah, forgot to mention that I did this using the R117967 drivers. Sorry for that. :smileytongue:

Btw, if anyone is interested, I also successfully installed the latest Toshiba driver stack v4.20.01 using the same method. (The R117967 drivers is actually the v4.00.22D stack. Seems like there's a security fix in v4.20.01. No details on what that is though).

How to do:
1. Download the Toshiba v4.20.01 stack from http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/download.php and unzip it.
2. Compare the tosrfusb.inf from the v4.20.01 stack and R117967 driver. Basically, just insert the missing "Rfusb_DellDevice" related lines into the v4.20.01 inf from the R117967 inf.
3. Remember also to add the ClassGUID line into the v.20.01 inf file.
....
Class=USB
ClassGUID={36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
....
4. Install the new stack as in the my earlier post.
5. Done! :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks! This fix worked like a champ. I can now install the Toshiba BT stack/driver on my Precision M20.

I have an i8600 I am trying to install the 350BT device on and nothing has worked, even these steps.  The Part number for BT on the 8600 is actually the 300BT instead.

After installing the 350, the BIOS says the Bluetooth Device = Installed, and windows installs an "Unknown USB device" but no driver I have found can be updated to it.

SonarSubs, It's not clear why you are trying to install the BT stack/driver for a 350BT when you claim to have a 300BT? Looking at the drivers for you i8600, there is a stack/driver for the 300BT here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R82522&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4M_8600&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3122&devlib=0&typecnt=2&vercnt=2&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=108353

The BIOS should report the presence of the card regardless of what driver is loaded by the OS. You many need to uninstall any previous stack/driver and uninstall the BT devices from the device manager before installing the 300BT stack/driver.

UPDATE: Ok, after re-reading the original post, it's not clear if you are physically replacing the 300BT with a 350BT. If this is the case, has Dell confirmed that this is a valid accessory for the i8600?

I never had a BT device in the 8600.  I bought one from one of the many sales on eBay saying the 350 was compatible with the 8600.  After buying the 350 I discovered the origional parts number for the 8600's BT device as the 300, not the 350.  I have been through many forums on the internet giving advice on how to make the 350 work on the 8600 but none have worked so far.  So I'm ditching the 350 whenever the 300 comes in the mail.

So far I think the 350 was incompatible with the 8600

As far as I know the BT 300 & 350 are USB devices, even though they use and OEM connector.  If it is truely a USB device and you have an OEM connector the model of the laptop should not really matter.

When I was having all my trouble I do remember seeing unknow USB device a coupble of time.  I had to delete if from device manager.  I also remember deleting/renaming any BT or BT USB  INF files that came as part of the standard Windows package.

Sorry not a lot of details but I hope this helps.

I did see the unknown USB device previously. It is actually the BT350 card but Windows was not able to find the driver. Did you try manually selecting the tosrfusb.inf?

You can try forcing the driver for the unknown device via:
- Right click on the "Unknown USB device"
- select Properties->Driver->Update driver
- Do not connect to Windows Update->Install from a list or specific location->Include this location in the search->Browse for the modified tosrfusb.inf file as above.

Yes I have already tried that before.  I deleted the Unknown USB device, scaned for new hardware, and it reloaded as an Unknown USB device again, without prompting me for a driver.  I also pointed the device to the modified inf file and it said it could not find any compatible drivers for this device.

Hmm... That's odd. I also had the "no compatible drivers" initially but was solved after modifying tosrfusb.ini from the R117967 drivers. Try verifying if C:\ Windows\inf\tosrfusb.ini  is modifed correctly with the ClassGUID line since that is the default location Windows searches for drivers.

Nope tried that already. I modified the INF file, and placed the file in Windows/INF.  Then I uninstalled the "Unknown Device" under USB controllers, scaned for new hardware, it found a new device, and installed it as Unknown Device.  I even pointed UpdateDriver option on the Unknown Device to C:\Windows\INF\tosrfusb.ini and it said it could not find any compatible drivers.

In this Dell Forums thread, raskell says that they have been using the BT350 in their 8600 for about a year.
