I have also restored my system and I cannot get my audio working, his problem I also had when I received the inspiron the first time ( one month ago) , after several times installing and deinstalling I got it working but I don''t know anymore how.

It won't work with the friver  of the Dell resource CD and not with the downloaded driver SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97, so if you have a solution I would be glad to hear it.

with a standard Intell audio driver I get the audio working but then the audio control butons don't function anymore, so this is not a good solution

that is a link for an older version of SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97 correct?

i was looking for SigmaTel C-Major Audio. It use to be on the site,, but i don't see it anymore

so i was wondering if SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97 was a upgrade version of SigmaTel C-Major Audio

it this right?

I've tried this option and it is working fine again (so the default driver from the restore is used):

The audio drivers might be corrupted. There is no way to tell if the drivers are corrupted except by uninstalling and reinstalling them and then trying to use your audio again. Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Find the audio driver under Sound Controllers and right click on the driver and then click Uninstall. Shut down the computer then restart. Windows should automatically detect your device and display a wizard that helps you reinstall the drivers for it. If this wizard does not appear, reinstall a new driver manually.

good luck!

"i was wondering if SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97 was a upgrade version of SigmaTel C-Major Audio

I think 'C-Major' means the STAC9750/51 chips. The 9250/51 chips seem to be a new design, not an upgrade. I doubt the drivers are interchangeable.

I have both the 67 page pdf for the 97 and the 2 page product brief for the 92. Below is Sigma Tel's description of the 925x and it is much different from the 975x:

"Notebook: STAC9250/51
HD Audio Modem on Motherboard (A-MOM)
The STAC9250/9251 are high fidelity, 2-channel audio codecs compliant with the High Definition Audio (HD Audio) specification defined by Intel. The STAC9250/ 9251 enables a two-chip audio and modem implementation by integrating the “System Side” functionality of Silicon Labs’ modem solution. The STAC9250/9251 provides a direct interface to Silicon Labs’ “Line Side” integrated circuit. This integration results in cost savings without sacrificing audio fidelity or modem functionality. The STAC9251 implements direct interface to two digital microphones supporting advanced beam forming applications resulting in increased quality of voice applications."

I wrote, "I think 'C-Major' means the STAC9750/51 chips."

Now I see that dell is also referring to the 925x driver as C-Major. However the 92xx & 97xx drivers should not be interchangeable.
