2405FPW Card Reader - Mac driver?

Question

The Dell 2405FPW (similar?) appears to use a SMSC 2502 2-port chip to receive the USB input line from the computer. That chip drives a SMSC 2504 4-port chip, and a SMSC USB2223 card reader chip. The hub works with my Mac G4 (MacOS 10.4.5; dual 1.25GHz, FW800), but the card reader does not. Unfortunately, SMSC does not have a Mac OS-X driver for the 2223 (though the chip data sheet claims 'OS-10 compatibility'). Does anyone have a clue as to how to use the card reader with Mac OS (10.4.5)? ... Al

Oh - I discovered that a G4 12' PowerBook DOES work with the 2450FPW card reader! The problem is only the G4 DP FW800, with a PCI card IOGear USB2 add-on... Anyone have a solution, or have the card reader working with a different add-in card? ... Al
