I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that, but it looks like that's the only solution. I'm hoping they issue a recall though, and get some quality monitors shipped afterward. I could've easily gotten the 2005WFP, but I thought I'd pay the premium for the 2007WFP because it was the newer model.
This is my first experience with a high-end Dell monitor of my own, and I can't say it's been a good one. My roommate has literally been through
6 2005FPs, each of which had so crippling a problem that he had to return them again and again (he's a professional graphics/content designer/creator).
I
really do not want to go through the same experience. My banding problem isn't as bad as some others I've seen, but for this expensive a monitor, I should be having no problems whatsoever.

With VGA, if you set the display as 1680 X 1050, when you play DVD, the screen flickering. The only way to use this monitor is VGA and set the display as 1280 X 800.
My computer and monitor came today. For the record, my monitor is from Mexico, Rev 00A, but it displays banding. So, I'm not sure it's a China vs Mexico thing.
Under VGA, the monitor is perfect, no banding from what my untrained eye can see. The text was sharp.
Under DVI, noticeable banding, even to my untrained eyes. The text was also very fuzzy.
I think the problem has to do with the DVI input. Now, I guess the question becomes, can I live with just using this monitor with the VGA input. I'm not sure, since I got into this deal specifically because the monitor had a DVI input.
Based on my experience of 2005FPW (It Rocks!),I blindly expected better from dell when I ordered 2007WFP monitor.
How can Dell let go this kind of problem, and still continue to sell it?
This monitor is like a 16-bit only display. More than that the blurry-text problem also exists. (If you compare 2007 with 2005, you will be amazed how superior 2005 is).
This is a defective product line, if you are thinking to buy it, DON'T!
I think Dell owes us an explanation and solution (xchange will be no no).
Dell should fire their "Product Quality Testing" department or give them an eye exam.
No way I can settle for VGA input when I paid premium for a monitor that has a DVI input. Plus, the VGA isn't much better and always flickers (as jsaya mentioned).
Mine was made in Mexico Rev A00.
It kinda sooks too that this monitor can't do 75Hz, only 60Hz at 1600x1050.

But seriously, I've got two 2007WFPs invested in and there has to be something done on Dell's part.
Against, I think that's a function of board software... after I registered to make my first post in this thread, I was refreshing the first page to watch for update posts, and wasn't seeing the thread at all. then I found an option to sort the board by date. It took me awhile to figure out.

Just rapidly kept taking pics of screen while DVD was playing...
I don't think it's any coincidence that this thread is now approaching 10 pages in length.
I'm still waiting on the "Dell Paid Pickup" that UPS is supposed to do for this defective display.
I called UPS today and gave them the 'reference' number that was given to me by the person handling my return, and UPS says it has no record of that number.
Another thing, why is this thread not on the front page anymore? With all this activity it should remain on the front page.
What number did you call to get through to the appropriate tech support with 1-5-1-1? I'm either an idiot, or Dell deliberately makes their tech support phone number hard to find on their tech support page.
I'm in tech chat with Dell right now. I like the idea of getting a log of the conversation I have. I wonder what the troubleshooting they'll force me to do will consist of: "Is your monitor connected to a Dell computer?" "No." "I'm sorry sir..."
FOr what it's worth, I started this chat with Order SUpport, and they came right out offering to replace the monitor. Maybe I'll just get a replacement every 15 days until Rev A01 or something.
And here's another pic of the banding:

So far tech support is oblivious to this problem or making a good show at being ignorant of it. I'm still waiting to see whether they'll ever acknowledge this problem, issue a recall, and give us all the monitors we paid for.
qpham5, the best you can do is explain your problem to tech support, tell them it's unacceptable that you have to go through this, that they have your money, and that you demand they either refund you entirely or give you a monitor that works without color and gradient banding.
Firmness is good, but losing your head and yelling doesn't do much good (here or anywhere else, heh).
