rob2shyne, a firmware update could possibly solve the problem, but from what "tech support" told me, they don't offer firmware updates except on one or two items in their inventory. I can't remember what, but I'm certain it wasn't for the monitors.

As steaksauce said, though, monitors don't really have drivers, unless it's for any additional features.

Does anyone's USB ports work when you hit the power button on the monitor? My original one used to; I was very pleased, but it's on its way back to Dell.

The replacement used to, too, but yesterday for some reason it stopped - now it's like the manual says, USB ports are on only when the monitor is (this is a rather foolish "feature").

Banding is not so evident on my set, but I'm returning this back to Dell for a refund minus shipping costs nonetheless. I love the design and color reproduction of this babe, but my very first LCD just had to disappoint.

I'll have to admit that I'll fell in love with this monitor, once they've fixed this issue I won't hesistate to order it again. It's with extreme sadness and unwillingness that I have to part with it.

Singapore here, bought it for SG$899 with the soundbar attachment, approx US$532.

Monitors don't have drivers, cars do. :smileyhappy:

However, in reality monitors DO have drivers, although, AFAIK, aside from specifying what kind of resolutions and refresh rates it can handle, install the ICM if there's one, and show the glorious brand and model in Device Manager.

Regarding the resolution and refresh rate, modern monitors can tell the graphics adapter what they're capable of via DDC.

OTOH, Windows ME/2K/XP have built-in drivers for USB hubs and really have no need for additional driver.

Will there be firmware update for the monitor? Or, is there any user doable way to update the monitor's firmware? These I would like to know as well.

BTW, the monitor's USB downstream ports are disabled if I turn off the monitor, which is what I expected.

Anyway, I'm not experiencing show-stopping banding as of now, I took a few photos running the gradient generating program and put them up on the link below:

http://byfai.com/gallery/v/2007WFP/?g2_page=4

Note that I'm running an analog connection. Also, text is a bit blurry and there's also ghosting if you look for them, but I suppose it's because the resolution is driving the analog connection to its limit. Too bad that I don't have any DVI outputs for testing.

elurice, I suppose yours is from China? All the ones I've received so far have been from Mexico, and I'd originally hoped (before getting mine) that only the Chinese batch of A00 monitors had this problem. You should've demanded they pay associated shipping costs - you paid and got a defective unit, you should be reimbursed in full.

loyukfai, from your monitor's shots, it seems you're in better condition than I was with my first 2007WFP. Oddly, though, downstream USB 2 worked fine when I turned off the switch and I thought, wow, they've fixed that nuisance since the 2005FP.

Then my second one came, same deal... except two days into using it, the downstream stopped working without the monitor being on.

Oh well.

loyukfai, those photos actually look a lot better than some of the other ones out there, but then again you're not connecting with dvi. When did you get the monitor, and where did you order it from? I wonder if the recent ones are better...

Yea it's a China RevA00, 2007WFPb. I guess I'll have another talk with the customer rep when she calls again to provide me with the RMA number, to see if she can waive off the freight cost as well.

Steps like those shown in the screen shots shown by people could be caused by quite a simple bug in the monitor firmware or maybe a defective D/A converter chip. If there is a D/A converter for each of the primary colors, if some of the least significant bits are not being set properly, so they are "stuck" at some value, that would produce steps as shown in the pictures.

That's how it would work with a regular analog CRT monitor anyway. I'm not sure how it works with an LCD panel and a DVI input connection. But I'd guess that the problem would be fairly easy for the monitor designers to diagnose.

It seems like the banding is tolerable with VGA but still noticeably bad. Anyone viewing with VGA find the problem still unacceptable even comparable to early-model LCD's? Tolerable?

I've thumbed through several LCD reviews on several different monitors and found that an x-amount of banding seems to exist on many models. Some like, the LG200C reviewed in CPU (computer power user) magazine April 2006, got praised for everything else but it the end got rung for it's banding and nothing else (very similar to the 2007WFP). Perhaps they use the same panel? Anyone know how to check? If you're curious, this same review gave high marks to the Dell 2405 and 3007 (of course).

I digress. It looks like most buyers are completely miffed by the banding issue looking severely worse through the DVI connection (the higher bandwidth/quality input over VGA).  I agree; most anything that looks questionable through VGA should noticeable improve through DVI heck even stay the same but it should not at all get worse...theoretically.

On that topic, can any of you eagle-eyed graphic designers post the effects the 2007wfp banding has on your actual work or portions thereof? Both through VGA and especially DVI.

On other forums the connection to the LG screen has also been found. It *seems* they're using the same panel.

Yep, according to this list they're using the same panel: http://aryarya.net/wassyoi/lcdmemo.html

@ psyh: FYI, the monitor arrived in early April and was ordered from Dell HK, the label shows it's a Rev A00 and made in China unit.

Thank God I bumped into this forum.  I saw the price go down and I was ready to buy.

Dell, fix the issue and you can count on this sale....

The 2007FP (and WFP) has tremendous potential and I would have considered it for a large purchase order, but the banding issue takes it off the short list for now.

The problem is, even if Dell sorts out the banding issue with the 2007 models using LG IPS panels, it seems Dell has started using lesser Samsung PVA panels in the 2007FP. If Dell does not go back to using the IPS panels then I would not consider this model even WITHOUT banding. There are other and better models which use PVA technology, and in any event I would try to find another model with IPS technology instead for the far superior color accuracy, viewing angles and other benefits.

I too recently purchased the 2007FPW along with a computer, after running some test programs it definitely looks to be having color banding issues...
my # was CN-OHF730-4663-62N-2RGL T  REV A00

Just today I spoke with a Tech rep and they were shipping me a new one will let you all know the #
The  CSR and myself were online for about an hr trouble shooting , suggested me to update the driver of the video card etc but still it was nof no use.

I just hope its from a new batch thats fixed...

Come on DELL pls issue a recall if you know its now working...this will save you from TO=FRO shipping cost
