I just found something similar to PowerStrip that is available for the Macs out there, called DisplayConfigX. You can find it at: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13375
I can still easily make out the banding from over 10ft. away. I'm seeing it more and more in real world use too. Very annoying. Has it been 5 days yet??
Someone should still test it just incase. Sure it could be a troll, but it's so out there (Who even knew what Front Porch settings were?) that I have some small bit of optimism. At this point they've knocked the monitor down to a price point that is so low that I'm tempted to buy this thing and take it with it's flaws. I mean, it has so much going for it.
Addendum: Just read the post by Chris saying that there would be a response from the Dell Engineers in about 5 business days. If this turns out to be the case, then I suppose waiting 5 days and seeing is probably the best method at this point. If they fix it, and the fix is using the PVA (or whatever) panel instead of the LG panel, they will lose my business though. Got out of the loop by calling and getting a refund (What a pain that was) so now I'm free to sit it out.
Well I tried PowerStrip and I changed my front porch to 6 and banding is still there. Just as bad as before...oh well. Sounded too good to be true. Now I just hope this app didn't put any little spyware nasties on my rig.
After messing with some settings in PowerStrip, I've found that front porch settings are nothing more than vertical position settings. I have no clue why this guy thought it would have any effect, or what he's seeing.
Sorry to hear that the app didn't work. I was just copying and pasting what I found at the time. I was NOT confirming or endorsing the supposed workaround in any way. Oh well, I guess we gotta keep on waiting for that hardware fix.
The PowerStrip fix has no affect on my 2007FP (S-IPS). Also, the default vertical front porch setting was 1 line instead of 3. Maybe its because of this is an FP not an FPW. Anyway, I tried setting it to 3 then 6, and there was no affect on either.

Powerstrip is spyware free (depending on where you get it)
But back to the post of the guy before the last post, because I have to ask if he makes a good point. Sitting a few feet away from the monitor, can you still see the banding? And I don't mean on a banding test, but in real-world applications can you see it? Are we just sitting too dang close to these things or what? (I realize this is a hardware flaw, a rather large one, and that it NEEDS to be fixed, but for 350 bucks..)
aahhh ... why is the cdn price so off the us price? do you hate us up here dell? USD = $358, CDN = $551. Transportation costs??? I'm smuggling this baby across the border..... :) Once its fixed that is.
The price is too good... I took the plunge. I have been pleased with every aspect of my past Dell purchases. I have faith that they will fix this problem. We'll see how it looks..... There is always the option to return.
