Took me a while to skim through 51 pages of messages... I also have a really bad banding issue. I have Samsung SyncMaster 912N as my second monitor and I can definitely see the difference by just looking at my wallpaper that has black-grey gradient.
I also have a very bad flickering issue which I posted as a separate message (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=56100).
I will wait for Chris' response before returning this.
In "real world" situations I notice banding in World of Warcraft running at optimal resolution on all three modes. As some stated mostly in the sky textures but also in fire and on some wall textures. Thats about the only game I play at the moment but just using photoshop and laying down a gradient to work with I notice it heavily in greyscale gradients. And here the switching of modes results in little change. If I had to rate them I would put Gaming as the worst, Multimedia as the second to worst and Desktop mode wins the title of "still lots of banding but at least its better than Gaming and Multimedia".
Well, I just got my replacement monitor yesterday. No dead pixels (hooray), but the screen has ever so slight trapaziod effect. The top is a little more narrow than the bottom. The bad news is that I do still have banding. And this one is from China, not Mexico.
We will because currently the monitors are DEFECTIVE. They are under warranty and will be replaced at NO CHARGE to us since the problem is NOT on our end.
Hey Chris M, so when/if Dell fixes the hardware, will we get an option to exchange our current monitors for the fixed ones even if we passed the 21 day period? Thanks.
That is exactly what I said to the rep yesterday, however he still disagreed. Hopefully, ChrisM could clarify this replacement issue because I'm sure customers would like to know when the problem is fixed, what the next step would be.
A forum thread doesn't reach 52+ pages in length over a small issue. This is obvious a major issue, and I hope it gets resolved quickly. I liked the monitor while I had it, but I'm not gonna chance a "possible" replacement. So I opted for a full refund. So here I sit, patiently awaiting a solution to this ridiculous problem.
I'm also curious about the buyers who knew about this at a later time. I spoke with a rep yesterday and he said that the warranty doesn't include this defect? I bought this LCD a few days after it was announced and just yesterday did I find out about the banding on the DVI port. I never noticed since I was using VGA. So my question is, is this LCD going to be replaced with a new non-defective one - free of charge?
The principle of caveat emptur ( "buyer beware" ) would not apply to the concept of a warranty. As Dell's current position is that there is no problem, there is no certainty that the problem exists in the monitor you may or may not have already ordered/ received.
The application of a warranty is a guarantee of fitness of the product, i.e. that it will work as promised. Unless the warranty has an exception clause, i.e. no replacement for banding problems on 2007WFP or such, you are entitled to enforce the terms of it - i.e. getting a monitor that is not defective. Unless Dell takes the position that the banding is not a defect, the warranty covers this current problem occurring in the monitors.
ps caveat emptur on this advice :)

I will ignore the negative tone and say that in any exchange, Dell pays the shipping. We send you a prepaid DHL return ticket with the replacement monitor.
:( I just came upon this thread after some google searching, I purchased my 2007FPW on Thursday of this week, if it has the color banding issue, and they do not find a fix for it , can I return it withing 21 days for a full refund ? Maybe this was answered before but I dont feel like flipping thru 50+ pages :(

Is Dell also proofing a solution for the 2007FP, or only for the widescreen-model?
