Well unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be placing an order before the 22% off sale is up. I'd just rather wait till friday and see if the fix is in place yet on the production line. Anyone know when Dell may put out another 35% off Electronics again? That's probably when I'll place my order for the monitor. My friend said they probably will at the end of the fiscal quarter so they can boost sales due to loss of sales because of the banding..either that or the fiscal year which for Dell is soon IIRC. I could afford the monitor for a little under 300 with a 35% off but not for 450
I know this has probably been asked before, but since we are waiting till Friday anyway, I know I'm not clogging the board.
How does the return process work? Say I want to return it before the 21 days, do I have to call someone on the phone or can I just get a pickup arranged through their online help services? I'm getting uber antsy...I so don't want to have to ship this thing back, I hope they hold off on shipping it untill it's fixed. If they don't I'll be sad, very very sad.
To answer one of the replies ( bob_c_b), wanting to know if I had a 2007 monitor or just mouthing off. No I don't have one, and do not need one to post the facts, which are :
1. This is not a fix yet, and don't hold your breath on this until it really happens, and tests can be conducted, and owners can judge for themselves if it was a firmware fix or if it needs a hardware fix instead.
2. You have 21 days from the ship date, not build date, nor when it gets to your home if you are a US resident. Other countries may have only a 15 day return policy period. You must call them to get a RMA number, than either wait for the box or ship it back in the box it came in.
3. Once your 21 days are up, Dell has the right to exchange it for a refurbished monitor, not new unless they are very giving, and they mostly are not in my 5 years of being a dell forum member.
4. Promotions, and coupons happen all the time. If you are not a little kid that just has to have something that has now been wildly reported as defective right away, wait until the next Dell Promotion or coupon. We see them all the time. Some better than others, but they do have good ones from time to time.
I'm not you, but if I were, I would send the darn thing back for a refund and not worry anymore about this monitor until the REAL day that is works properly, no guessing, no we have a fix but waiting for something else, what ever that is, no hoping if the fix really works or not.
I do hope they find a fix, and fast. But if they don't, you all have been warned, so don't start crying to us on this board when things are not 100%
Count me in the number of those waiting for an actual/garunteed fix and a continued or new sale price....but the real reason I decided to finally clog this board (after following it for about a week).....was to say thanks, not to Chris M. (though he deserves some), but to everybody else who has kept this so entertaining.....you've made the wait bearable. Particular the hypothezizing on Chris M.'s place of residence and work hours. It killed me. So hears to you for keeping the wait entertaining and hears to hoping for a high quality monitor in the near future.
"To answer one of the replies ( bob_c_b), wanting to know if I had a 2007 monitor or just mouthing off. No I don't have one, and do not need one to post the facts, which are"
Okay, just wanted to clearly establish you are trolling, thanks for the confirmation.
The way i see it though, if they have to replace something within the monitor, a downloadable fix is automatically out.
Dell collects tax on every purchase in the US. That means that they have a business presence of some sort in EVERY state. I would surmise that the main widespread business presence is their repair facilities. Therefore, maybe the wait to get the monitor back wouldn't be too unbearable. We could talk about Chris again and take a guess at..hmm..where he grew up :)
I have to agree with Tesche. It did make the wait bearable. I know dell will do something about it. They can't just leave us all in the lurch, because we would ship our monitors back and they would lose some serious money.
A downloadable fix would be very nice. I have a problem with delayed gratification.
I've been followint this thread since the very begining and would love to be able to purchase a perfect version of this monitor.
I live in hope that by the time it is released in the UK all the problems will be ironed out and we will receive the revised monitor from the word go. I'd hate to think that for some reason the UK will end up with all these RMA's monitors that have been re-flashed.
It's been very interesting keeping up with the posts in this thread with some very good arguments for keeping the monitor and waiting on Dell to fix and also for the flip side of RMAing it until Dell get it right.
Me, I couldn't be bothered returning monitor after monitor and would rather wait until they get the thing right before shelling out my hard earned.
Lets face it even at full price a 2007 that doesnt have the banding or text problems is an absolute steal compared to monitors of a lesser standing. When you take into account the tilt and pivot, PIP and all the input options then its an unbelievable bargain.

Phase only works on VGA. DVI is the preferred connect mode. I returned my 2007fp with banding and text blur. No fix for it over DVI.
I think most of the busted ones have blur as well, but you need excellent vision and you need to know what a good panel looks like to see it, so most don't notice.

Your worries are unfounded. This monitor line has virtually no issues other than color banding and the related text blurring.

The banding is what worries me a lot. Also, called support yesterday regarding the low mic level and grinding hard drive, they said nothing to worry about, "when the hard drive fails we'll change it", and that "there's nothing wrong with the sound card". I will sell the whole system. But this monitor is awesome (had there been no problems with it). So to buy or not to buy a monitor and use it with my old system?
Well, I just realized that the 2007 is not on sale anymore. So I'll keep the one that I have and sell the tower only.
That is so weird. I've called many times just so i could get different opinions from the Dell folk. Some know exactly what i am talking about. Others don't have the foggiest idea.
Well a chance of having a fixed monitor just went out the door. My order shipped today, I'll check it when it gets in but I'm guessing I'll have the same issue everyone else does. It also confirms that the sales person didn't know what he was talking about when I mentioned the fix.
Looks like the sale is still on, 100 bucks off the 2007 = about 350 bucks...altough here in cali the offers are usually changed every thursday am 6-7am.
Once it's announced the fix will applied to all monitors before they ship I'll order IF the price stays in the same range..if it goes back to the mid/upper 400's forget it
