That is correct kirby. You aren't billed until the product ships

I just recieved an email few minutes ago about the 22% off deal again from dell dated May 25, 2006. So looks like it will be on for a little while longer, hopefully we can all benifit after tommarows news from Chris M.

Weird..I just looked at monitors again, and now there is a 20% discount, not 22% mentioned

The first monitor I bought (after that blasted CNET review > argh!) was with a VISA, and my card was charged nearly the second I hit the "Confirm Order" button. The next day I found out about the banding..ofcourse..and it had already shipped, already been charged, there was no getting out of it. I was stuck.

Upon looking on the dell site, there is no place where you can go (even if you haven't payed yet, and have just submitted an order) to cancel your order. Does anyone else find this odd? You have to actually talk to someone to cancel. This is an awfull lot like a story that aired on local TV about a police station that wouldn't let you file a complaint against an officer without first speaking to an officer (Small-ish town. Chances are you were talking to the officer you wished to file a complaint against)

Well, after reading 88 pages of this thread this morning, I'm wonder whats best to do right now, for those of us that want to get in on the current pricing.  Should we hold off, or buy with hopes that we might get a "fixed" unit, or at least have 21 days to return if we dont get a "fixed" unit?  Seems like it might be best to wait for a confirmed fix, and then the next coupon/deal for this monitor, but at its current price, I have to say it is a bit tempting to order now and take the chance on a 21-day return policy.  That can be for refund too cant it, no questions asked?

You've got 21 days from the date of invoice to return a monitor and you can still get a full refund untill the 21 days are over. That is what alot of us are doing; Buying this monitor and then waiting for the fix.

An update for you all, my monitor has also just entered "Production" and this is the information it gives

Delivery Estimate: Monday, June 05, 2006 - Wednesday, June 07, 2006
This information is current as of Thursday, May 25, 2006.

So as of today, they think they will be able to ship the monitor on June the 5th or June the 7th. Taking into account what others with past dell-buying experiance have said, this is very strange. By all accounts, Dell normally ships stuff to you the same day you order it. This could mean the fix is in the works, we can only wait and hope for it.

To dell: We aren't in a hurry to get this monitor, seriously, take your time. Shipping was free 3-5 day, so it's not like we paid for the thing to get here fast. Flash that firmware, and then send it. Save your company (and us, mainly worried about us) the hassle.

To whomever said we were "Children that just have to have this defective monitor now" ... I agree with whomever called you a troll. The average coupon is for a few bucks off (Unless you want to buy it with a Dell system..and why would you? Non Upgradeable pieces of junk). 100 dollars might not be alot to you, but to some of us it is.

Oh and less I forget; Monitors (Be they TV's or Computer monitors) usually are able to be calibrated/flashed through the DVI, or atleast that is my experiance (fairly limited I'm afraid). The only firmware I've actually flashed myself is the PSP ( Like I'm going to lose emulation and homebrew just so I can play GTA for awhile? Pfft) and like I've said, firmware flashing is definatly not something that should be left to the consumer.

Westicle:

Let me correct myself. You SHOULDN'T be charged until the order ships. I thought that was Dell's policy

I agree with Tesche! Thanks everyone for making this wait informative and entertaining. I cannot believe how drawn I am to every update here. Its become my trice daily soap. I would like it if they could add an RSS feed.

Those with monitors I hope you get placements or fixes. Those wanting to buy this great but yet shown to be defective monitor. My advice and the route that I am taking is wait and see. Dell has deals running all the time. Any price difference that you have to swallow is the cost of piece of mind. I will admit to being older but $100 is still a lot of money to me. However I would rather wait for the next coupon or pay a little extra to get a monitor I can plug in and enjoy rather than one I have to ship back. My advice is chill awhile and wait to see if the firmware flash even works. Remeber this is something they are trying not guranteeing. This flash may not solve the problem as the problem may lie in the quality of components and not the instructions they use to process the signal.

Wait and see. in one year you will be happy you have a great monitor that works as advertised you won't even remeber if it cost $350 or $450.

Oh and to fuel the speculation on our Dell hero Chris M. Drum roll please have we considered the possabilty that Chris is short for Christine:womansurprised:

Interesting thought there blue. Perhaps it stands for Christobel...like Chris from Family Guy!

Hello All!

I have been following this forum for the last few days, as I am on the market for a new monitor at work, and this one in particular caught my eye. I am so very glad that I came across this thread..... it's been very informative (and entertaining!). It's saved me alot of hassle, however, I am in quite a place of indecision about whether to wait and see, or to go ahead and find another monitor. I work for a small non-profit and money is hard to come by, so when I do get approval to spend, I kinda need to spend or possibly lose the approval! :)

If I decide to go with another monitor, I was thinking of the SAMSUNG 215TW as a descent alternative.

I hope I am not overstepping the boundaries by bringing up a Samsung in a Dell forum....I just thought I throw that out and see what some of the obviously knowlegable people here on the forum think about the 215TW. I just need to make sure I'm spending money wisely you know :). I will be using whatever monitor I go with for design work (web and print), and for photo manipulation and original art creation. I do not need a gaming monitor, however, if I end up staying after work a little while to blow off some steam in an fps, then a monitor for that purpose might be nice! :)

Anyways, thanks for taking time to read this, and for posting such great and informative information!!!

Oh, and I agree.......

In some cases the monitors ship the second you place the order, by the magic of the internet =D (Not at the moment, which leads me to believe that shipping has been halted on this thing)

But I digress; I just learned that the Xbox 360 has a VGA cable, and that I can get it used for 12 bucks at my local EBgames (Or is it Gamestop now.. Man do I miss Babbages) and that XboxHackers tested it on a dell 2005 (which has inferior image quality, sans the 2007's banding), and games looked amazing. Not quite sure how sound will work though..I don't have external speakers, but I do have headphones..but that won't be stereo..I guess.. I'm confused. Anywho, woooooooooo

Oh, and my guess is that ChrisM lives in a van down by the river. Let's start a folk tale about ChrisM

I'm interested in buying this monitor and getting in on the lower price, but it's not worth the time or savings if I have to send the monitor back because of the banding/type issues....

and thanks Chris M, for providing some answers.
