I had the same problem - Inspiron E1505, 1390 wireless card, and Westell 327W DSL router from Verizon.  Couldn't connect to my router but could connect to some others (not all).  Talked with Dell support many nights for about a week - got very frustrated between language issues, going through problem solving script over and over.  They wanted me to pay them more $$ for software support which I rejected.  After bringing home a Dell Latitude notebook from work with an Intel wireless card (which worked).  I told Dell to send me the Intel pro 3945 wireless card.  After a brief run around, they finally agreed.  Got it yesterday – works like a charm.

Hate to jump on the band wagon; but I just bought a 1505 and also can not connect to the Westel 327 modem/router Verizon provides.

Does anyone have the same experience with other access points? It would probably be an easier fix for me to just bend over and buy another wireless AP; but I really hate treating the symptoms without treating the problem.

One thread reported an old access point would not work (I believe, LinkSys) and the writer went out and bought new one and it works great (also same - LinkSys).

According to Dell tech support; the Westell 327 has a specific incompatibility issue with a new feature set of the 1390 mini wireless card.

At this time there is no update available for the router. All attempts to work around this issue on the wireless card side did not work. No other wireless AccessPoints have been reported with this problem.

Take this information with whatever sized grain of salt you need.

Also, a big thank you to Nairhiti for all the help.

Thanks, I'm just about to buy a Dell e1505 and have never even used a wireless connection of my own before, just want to be able to email when I'm on the road from a hotspot.

You folks may have just saved me a major headache.

So, is it advisable to go with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card? Or, are there issues with that too?

Thanks,
John

I replaced the 1390 wireless card in my Inspiron E1505 with the Intel Pro Wireless 3945 wireless card.  I could then connect to my Westell router and haven't had any problems.

I think DELL should NOT sell 1390 wireless card because it does NOT work.  It's so extrange, I don't know.

I told technical support to read the forum and he didn't want to.
I think they got the message, but they HAVE to sell them anyways so...........................

Same problem with my uncle's new Inspiron 1505 with 1390 card.
My uncle has verizon DSL which he got installed last yr.
The laptop does not connect.

Surprisingly, I have verizon dsl with westell router same model (327W)
and the laptop connects seemlessly at my place !

May be Westell has a fix for the problem in the new hardware.
My version is as follows:

Model Number B90-327W15-06
Software Version VER:03.02.01
Software Model 4 Port Gateway
Description WireSpeed Data Gateway
Boot Loader VER:03.02.01
Configuration 096-900096-01A

Dell support didnt show that they were aware of this problem.
They sent replacement 1390 card with same results.
Unfortunately I saw this thread too late otherwisew have asked for
the Intel card as replacement.

I called the technical support and they have a temporary solutions right now. You will need to downgrade the driver for the wireless card. Search for R102320.exe from the support website or follow this link

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R102320&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=132284

Good luck guys. I am personally hope for driver upgrade instead of downgrade, but it works for me at least for now.
