Remove the hard drive. Can you get to the BIOS screen?

Is the BIOS screen the screen you get to by pressing the F2 key? If so then yes I can get to it, but only sometimes, a lot of the time it freeze's before I can get that far. Should I just remove and then re-install the HD?
Thanks

I was just able to get it working normal again for about 5 mins or so. I ran a spyware detection program, and of course it forze. Now it's back to square one again being completey un-responsive on start up.

Power on, press F12 immediately, and load and run the Dell extended diagnostics on the hard drive. I suspect you'll find it's failing.

Already tired that, it works fine until it promts me to plug in the power cord. Once I plug the power cord in, the laptop freezes and then the screen goes black. I'l try it again though.

Ok- I see how old this forum is but, I am going to take my chances and hope SOMEONE can still answer this - I also have a Dell Inspiron 1150. I have been TRYING, over and over and over again, on ZILLIONS of other sites to get an answer to THIS question:

All I want to know is, can a hard drive, that COULD be going bad (i.e. - an undetected crack ) cause this laptop to not only, NOT go past the Windows screen right away, but also slow up the log of process, cause the VM to run too hard, the pages not wanting to load BECAUSE of THAT, or,  the fan not running enough TO keep the pages loaded. Any of these, a result of THAT? A possible bad hard drive? I NEED to know.

The answer is yes, a bad hard drive can do all of those things.
