patderon,

Check in Control Panel -> Add/Remvoe Programs to insure that all of the google desktop and google toolbar have been uninstalled.

I have the same problem with a new Inspiron 1100. It appears when the site is slow to load, or the URL was mispelled. I think it is Dell trying to be helpful although the helpdesk seems not to know about it. I too would like to get rid of it. Do you also have lots of houskeeping "helpful" popups with the Dell logo on them?

I just bought a new Dimension desktop E510 and I am having almost the same issue. I try to look for jobs on newspaper Carerrbuilder and as I click on each job listing I get thrown back to the Dell Support page with this message:

Sorry, we couldn't find http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N3754.CareerBuilder/B1635050%3Bsz. Here are some related websites:

I contacted Dell Support and they told me that this isn't covered and I would have to pay to talk to someone to straighten this problem out. I told them, this is a brand new computer and they said it doesn't matter. Can anyone help me?

Thanks!!!

Hi,

I don't think the problem is to do with Google, the site that I am redirected to has Dell's logo on it but, as with a lot of these types of sites, is powered by a Google search engine.

I talked to a Dell helpdesk employee by email but she has no idea about this type of problem. I am beginning to think that Dell does not train it's support staff very well.

This is my third Inspiron in 5 years, the other two have caused no problems at all but I have had to contact Dell support on numerous occasions in the 3 weeks I have had this one. Most of the fixes have come from this forum.

I recd. a reply (and a solution!) from another board member.

The answer is to remove a program which is called "URL Assistant".  Solved the problem immediately.
