No, the Dell guides won't go into the details of replacing a backlight or the inverter if that's what you're looking for. The backlight inverter is what drives the backlight. Both are inside the display panel.
If you want to replace either the backlight or inverter you can probably find a generic how-to guide by doing a Google search. I've been adding useful threads to my favorites whenever I see a message about where to buy a backlight or display for the i8100. I figure one of these days mine will need replacing.
I just found some great info about doing this repair over at http://www.lcdpart.com/. They consider replacing the backlight or inverter a Level 1 repair that doesn't require much skill. They sell the parts and have generic online instructions.

Still doesn't tell me what the difference is between a backlight and a backlight inverter...oh well.
