Need Warranty Service on a 2001FP Ultrasharp LCD

Question

My display needs to be repaired/replaced.  Customer care requests that I send them a Dell order number.  Since I purchased the display, new in unopened Dell box, from a reseller, I do not have an order number.  The display was purchased 5 November 2005. The representative sends me scripted messages giving evidence that he/she has not read my messages (carefully).   What do you suggest I do to get warranty service?

ask if they can get the order number from the serial number found on the back of the monitor, not always something that can be done but try anyway. Failing that just need to contact your seller

I would suggest contacting the seller and getting the Dell order number that the display was sold on. Then you call Dell with the order number and the serial number of the monitor (usually starts with 2 letters, then a 0 (zero)) followed by 5 characters that reflect the Dell partnumber, and then several more letters and numbers (20 or so characters total).

thats more or less what i said, but they are able to get the order number from the serial number 99% of the time so it might be easier to try that 1st
