I have that same router. I don't have any problems with it. Are you using Windows to configure or are you using the Dell utility? I think you will have the most luck with windows.
I read in other posts the dell utility causes problems so I am using the windows utility instead. Before I bought the E1505, I had an Inspiron 5100 w/ the 1390 card installed, and I never that these issues with the 5100. I may have not mentioned that I'm running my wireless network with WEP security 128 bit. I don't see how that would cause these problems.
I'm running wep also, but I think it is only 68 bit? When it comes to routers and wireless I truly do not know what I am talking about. If you go onto the Linksys site they have chat support that is really good - that is how I got connected.
I just finished chatting with Janice from Linksys and she may have offered me some settings to my router that may help but I will have to try it out for a few days to be 100% sure. But for future reference I'm posting up the configuration she recommended for my Linksys WRT54G router:
I had set my router channel to 1 to avoid conflict with surrounding routers in my complex but she recommended changing it to 11.
So far I'm downloading a 285MB file to push the wireless connection to see if it would hold up. So far the connection has been established for 35 minutes, and downloading for 10 minutes without any disconnects.
I think I'm still going to upgrade the card to a Intel Pro 3945 for the extra features. It's great that I can get the 1390 to work with my router, but will it work at other sites since I can't access a wireless router's set up page to make these kinds of changes?
Again, you guys were right about Linksys giving great support and that is why I'm sticking with the router. Dell on the other hand was a bit disappointing considering they were quick to point the finger instead of coming up with a solution. Other than my problems with the 1390 I'm all around pleased with the E1505 but I would recommend anyone to steer clear from the Truemobile 1390 WLAN card. Spend the extra money and stick with the Intel Pro 3945. I'm sure it's not perfect but the feature set on Intel WLAN is far more superior than the 1390.
I will keep everyone posted with my experiences with my current settings to the router and as soon as I receive the Intel Pro 3945. Buy the way, if anyone's interested, you can get the 3945 at buy.com for $32.99.
Thanks everyone for leading me to the Linksys Tech support and for the help.
Thank you for all your postings. It is interesting to see so many people having these issues. I have a NETGEAR router and had the same problems, the connection would keep dropping, thus no access to the internet.
After about 4 hours with Dell Tech Support and countless hours troubleshooting on my own. I found out that the best choice was to use a NETGEAR USB Adapter. Within minutes I was able to be running and no more connection drops.
So after a month of annoying disconnections, I believe to have come to a resolution. I purchased the Intel Pro 3945 Wifi card to replace the Truemobile 1390 card, since then I have been running this card approximately a week and still haven't had any issues. I've ran the windows wireless manager as well as Intel's wireless manager and haven't experienced any drop outs.
From the start I knew the router couldn't be the problem seeing that my other wireless devices connect to my network without a hitch. I also chose the internal mini-card route because I didn't want any objects protruding out of the side or back of my laptop, freeing up my USB ports. Switching out cards is not for the faint of heart for it requires you to pull apart the top portion of the 1505 to swap out the card, but after 10 minutes of work, the clean look is worth it.
In conclusion, I'm going to recommend everyone to stay away from the truemobile wifi card. After my upgrade, my wireless connection has been flawless and my signal strength always remains strong. I hope this helps everyone out there with intermittent connections.
I must be a total oddball. I got connected with my 1390 card within about 2 hours of opening the box on the laptop (with Linksys help) and have had smooth sailing ever since. Exact same router as yours (WRT54G) Did not have to upgrade any software or anything. I wish I had saved the chat transcript because I bet it would have been helpful to others. I don't know enough about wireless to remember what the guy told me to do (it was several steps) but he really knew what he was doing.
Hi, I'm searching for a dell 1390 wireless card for my E1505. As dell Switzerland doesn't sell them I'm trying by this way to get one. Are you interested to sell your 1390 card? (The Intel 3945 is not compatible with Apple OSX which is running as my main OS on the E1505 - Dell 1390 is fully compatible.) So if someone is interested selling his Dell 1390 - please post or PM.
That would be great. Tell me, how much you want for the card and how I could send you the money. (Would you accept PayPal? Bank fees for internatioanl transfers are very high in Switzerland.) Postage won't be too expensive if you send the card in an envelope.

Click Wireless tab >> Advanced Wireless Settings >>
Beacon Interval = 50
