I actually got mine late today (after 4pm), but the funny thing is the 2005 (refurb)
as well as the 2007 (A02!) came (that's two monitors). Go figure.
The good news is I tested the 2007wfp and everything seems to be in working order (still some very slight banding, but acceptable). Hurray!
The bad news is I have to setup a pickup for two monitors (one of which has a pre-printed waybill sticker, and the other has a normal fill-it-yourself carbon-copy waybill that's partially filled out for me... why are there two different ones? Another mystery...).
They recently sent me a request to do a customer satisfaction survey and I completely slaughtered them. Not because I have anything against them, but because they seem to operate solely by Murphy's law.
I got a refurbished A02 today as well. I already had an A01 from one of the regular tech support replacements (and asked Chris to take me off his list a while ago), so now I have to choose between a new A01 and a refurbished A02 (which looks OK, from what I can tell).
Dell doesn't cease to amaze me with their lack of internal coordination. This is the 5th monitor I got in the attempt to get a good new monitor:
1. Initial purchase during Canadian sale. new A00
2. First replacement through Canadian support: new A00 (after specifically asking them to wait till an A02 is available)
3. Second replacement through Canadian support: new A01
4. Complained to support about not receiving an A02. They send a refurbished A00 (which went back right away). After that found out about the diff between A01 and A02 being just settings, so I decide to keep the A01 and pm Chris to be taken off the list
5. Received refurbished A02 today (few weeks later)
Now I'm impressed that they keep trying, but how hard can it be to take care of a problem like this? Quite hard, in Dell's universe, it seems...
Am I the only one who dosen't mind having extra $600 monitors arround the house for a couple days? Today I just received a 2007WFP in the mail (9AM delivery no less), the only problem being that it's another A00. But at least there are no dead pixels (*knock on wood*). I am a bit mistified about the 2005WFP that they send me, because not only was it the wrong model, and a old revision (A03), but it's DVI port is completley non functional (unless you can turn it off in the menu???). And it being a refurbished part, I have to wonder exactly how well they test monitors before they send them back out again.
On another topic (I thought of it because i'm hoping to get 4 monitors before I have to sent them back ;)) how do you wall-mount one of these? Do you just unsrew the metal plate from the base and then stick that on the wall, or is the snap-in mount standard and you can buy mounts for them.
Also why do the monitors say 2007WFPb, why the 'b'? was there a 'a' or is it for colour, and there going to be comming out with a pure white one for macs?
You wall-mount them with a VESA compliant mount that you can buy at most big-box computer stores. It's basically a universal mount that you attach to a wall, which you can then attach the monitor to the mount. The Dell site says the monitor is VESA compliant, so let's hope they got that part right. ;)
I wonder why it says 2007WFP
b as well, but then you know they also draw Waldo's onto PCB's so who knows. :o
I know it's VESA compatable, but there arn't any screws on the monitor other than under where it snaps onto it's stand. So I'm thinking you either screw something in where the 4 screws that are back there (I dont think I want to unscrew them though), OR you unscrew the metal part of the base that fits in the back of the monitor and then screw something into there. That would probably be easier because you would then still have the snap on/snap off feature.
You should recieve your replacement around the estimated delivery date you'll get in your confirmation e-mail (around 2 weeks).
To check if it's A02, just look at the back of the panel when you recieved it. There will be a sticker with the serial number, Made in Mexico or China, revision A0x.
Couldn't you just arrange for the UPS guy to come pick it up from your work place? That's what I did, because there's no way in h3ll I'm gonna waste precious gasoline to drive all the way to a UPS store (odd hours or not).
