1704FPV USB Hub Toasted

Question

It seems that I toasted the USB hub in my 1704FPV monitor. It used to work nicely with flash drives and iPod. Here's what I think happened: Scene: 1704FPV hooked to desktop running Win2k, USB cable connected to top USB port (relative to main board). Sewell USB-serial adapter plugged in a USB port on the 1704FPV monitor hub. Action: Attempt to load the driver for the Sewell USB-serial adapter in the Win2K machine. Result: I do not remember the immediate indications, but the monitor hub quit working. USB flash drives do not work in the monitor ports anymore. They work just fine plugged directly in any port on the computer. When the USB cable from the monitor is plugged in the computer, same port as above, the Windows 2000 'Unplug or Eject Hardware' icon is displayed. This used to only happen when a USB device was plugged in the hub. Unplugging the monitor's USB cable does not cause any error message. Plugging cable in the other port for the first time caused Win2k to claim it found new hardware, but it then decided 'Unknown Device'. No response, other than the 'Unplug or Eject Hardware' icon for successive connections. Plugging cable in a laptop running Win XP, message 'USB Device Not Recognized' is displayed every time. Is it possible that the hub controller got reflashed or did it get otherwise clobbered? Is it possible to reflash it via USB with the proper code? Can I get my hands on that code?

Just a thought. Try and unplug the monitor power cord from the wall and see if the usb resets.

I feel stupid now, thought I'd done that. Apparently not. Seems like shutting down with the power button isn't the same as pulling the plug. I guess everybody on this forum with monitor USB problems should try this. THANKS!
On second thought, it makes sense not to shut USB down when you just want to turn off the display.

We do get power outages in t-storms now and then, but the ups takes care of them, for both, computer and monitor. Thanks again!

Not a problem. My guess is that the USB circuit latched. Have you had a power outage recently? By unplugging from the wall, it resets all circuits.

This worked for me to! The power service flashed off and on a few times the other night, that's when the usb hub stopped working. I thought maybe it got fried. In addition to unplugging the monitor I also had to reboot the PC. Thanks!
