Try taking out the battery and then put it back in.

Thanks... guess I could have told you what I already tried. Every combination of battery in/out power card plugged in. Checked to make sure the memory was seated firmly. Made sure the hard drive was seated firmly.

Use the waranty. Call dell and tell them your symptoms. The batt is under warranty for a year. Their turn around time is fast. The tech on the phone is obligated to go thru a list of stuff. Some of it you have already done. do it again.
and...don't fprget to extend your warranty.

Here is something to try:

Remove the battery an try to boot with just the AC Adapter connected. If this boots fine that means either there is a battery malfunction or there is something wrong with the system board that it is not properly seeing the battery connection.

Like the previous post said call, use what you paid for!

Thanks again for the suggestions... I tried without the battery inserted but got the same results. The reason I'm trying this first is that I'm in Trinidad right now and it's going to cost me a fortune to ship it back to the States to get fixed.

I have the same problem with my 600m. It started 2 months ago (just after my service agreement expired). I took it in to a local shop and they originally told me it was a bad connection between the hard drive and the motherboard. But now, after I have a new hard drive and they reseated the connector on the motherboard, it still happens when I transport it. I'm convinced it's something even worse. But I don't have the money to find out or fix it.

I can usually get it to turn on after about 5+ or so tries of taking the battery, hard drive, DVD-ROM, and memory out and then putting them all back in. Sometimes giving it a gentle shake works too.

Also, once I get it to turn on, it works (I can turn it off and then the next morning it turns on fine) unless I move it. If I carry it horizontally and don't jar it in the slightest, then it works fine. But that's a pain as it's not mobile. It’s like it wants to be a desktop.

If you find out what's wrong with your computer, can you pass the info along to me? I'm hoping the motherboard isn't going bad, but that's what all my techie friends are leaning toward...

This happens with mine occasionally.

I have figured out that it must be a grounding issue somewhere inside the chassis. Something is being shorted.

However, I have yet to send mine in.

I found out, that if i press down on a few keys, slightly hard ( not too hard ) that it will power up.

its the area around the Y U I H J K N M ,  keys.

i have not tried to look inside to see what is around that spot.

This is not a battery issue. I am pretty sure it is a physical problem with the flexing of the chassis. maybe during shipment, or during improper handling of it. for instance, holding the laptop with one hand, gripping it on one side.

It makes me feel slightly better to know that other people are experiencing similar problems with their 600m. At least it’s not just me.

When mine goes all possessed (with the flashing lights and all), it makes a very faint clucking (not really a clicking) noise. That noise seems to be coming from under the touchpad (or in that vicinity). But it's not the hard drive as it does it even without the HD in. Does yours have similar symptoms? I haven't tried pushing keys down, but the next time I transport it, I'll give that a shot. Anything to make it turn on...

Mine makes no noise at all. I've listened closely and nothing is happening inside. The hard drive is not spinning. It's dead... except for the green lights flashing.

When my lights flash, my hard drive isn't engaged either (they even flash when the HD isn't in the computer). I know that the computer will work when I hear the HD start spinning. A spinning HD is music to my ears. Of course, that takes many tries of taking things out, putting them back in, turning the computer to its sides, upside down, and even walking around with it for a while. I've always been able to get it to start, but the level of frustration goes up each time it does this. And once I get it to start, it works fine till I move it.

I'm not convinced that your hard drive is the problem because they told me mine was and I replaced it but it still does the flashing light/not turn on thing. I hope you can at least get yours to start so you can back everything up. But since it's still under warrantee, I'd definitely send it back to Dell and have them fix it.

Those of you who no longer have warranty should definitely try resetting the BIOS like I did, before selling your 600m for parts on eBay!  I have repeatedly turned it on and off at least 30 times in the past hour, and every time it powered up nicely.

Hey guys... I guess I should have followed up sooner. Turns out it was the motherboard. They replaced it under warranty and now it's working fine.

Hey guys, I was having the exact same problems that you all have and felt very bad about it, but I might have found a, if not *the* solution.  I went into the BIOS (mine is A17), hit Alt F to load factory settings, and since then it has been able to power up every time!  Give it a try!

How can you reset the BIOS if the computer won't even turn on?

In my case, if I kept trying many times, eventually it would turn on.  Then I reset the BIOS and the problem was solved.
