I wonder at times how bad the banding really is. My Sony LCD has all the banding issues that apparently this Dell has, since I just now tested it. I hadn't noticed in 2 years and its my favorite image editing monitor. . .
Chris M seriously deserves a big raise from Dell for this. He's been getting hammered by dozens and dozens of us users regarding questions, the return process, etc. He's been very patient. And he's the only Dell employee who actually convinced them to look at the problem. So I thank you, Chris M.
The 21-day return policy can't really apply here. If it did, they'd be shipping you another defective monitor, and it's because the monitor's defective that you're swapping it.
Too bad it's not possible (yet) to flash it via the OS. Perhaps future models could incorporate this?
Anyway, I see few/no screenshots of fixed/newer owners' monitors. It'd be nice to track changes. Post them if you could, especially if you think you've gotten a decent/fixed monitor.
Here we go again...

"Also, you needn't worry about the 21 day policy on returning or receiving a new monitor. All exchanges for this issue will be new."
I got mine last tuesday (The 30th) and it didn't have the new firmware, so I am guessing that nobody has one with the new firmware at this point.
Really, over VGA, this monitor isn't that bad (The paticular one I have) which would be fine, if not for HDCP. Because of the HDCP standard, DVI is going to become mandatory, which is why for reasons of future-proofing, we need to get the fixed panels.
I really do wish ChrisM would give us confirmation that he has our information, and maybe a more concrete statement of some kind about the 21 day return period not applying to us with the defective monitors (A forum mod stating so doesn't really represent a legal, binding commitment from Dell to waive the 21 day period).
Let's hope we get our fixed monitors before the 21 days are up, so we don't even have to bother and we can just return them the normal way if we don't like them, with no hassles.
Hehe consider yourself lucky to be in thi ssituation.
I think most peopl ein here (including me) are already way past their 21 day policy and are therefore making such a ruckus about this fix (we are done for otherwise...I hope dell comes thru for us)
Its like a double edged sword really. All this talk about banding in hopes of getting it fixed leads only to the education of many and thus, a difficulty in being able to get rid of the thing through eBay. Ugh, dell dell dell. why does it have to be like this.
Feel lucky that you even have the ability to use Ebay. If I don't get a fixed monitor in 21 days, and somehow I get tricked into not getting a refund before then, thinking that the 21 days doesn't apply, and then I find out it does apply.. Well, I'd be eating a 400 dollar investment.
I hate to say this, but I've checked, and it seems that all of the LCD's of this size seem to have one problem or the other. Atleast when the banding gets fixed, this monitor will be no worse than others, and alot cheaper to boot.
My main concern at this point is A: There are problems with this monitor that if not caused by the farouj scaler, are still enough for me to want to return this monitor (if all monitors in the line are affected) and B: This panel only has one dead pixel, what if the replacement has many more and it's not under the 21 day policy anymore?
Way too many variables, this is close to making me ill.
i will be picking my monitor up tonight from fedex after i get off work. I will report back with whether or not it has the firmware fix or not. I dont think it will, but ya never know. At least ill have a serial number so i can send it to ChrisM to get my replacement. We will see.
I just got mine yesterday, June 1st, and it defiently has the banding issue. Yet it does not have any text blur or flickering issuses, its extremely sharp.
This screen has no stuck or dead pixels and my main concern is that my replacement monitor will have these and then I'll be stuck in a predictament. Keep this or return it.
Can we please get a definate answer on the 21 day return policy. Does it apply to those of us who were sold defective monitors by DELL after Dell was already aware of the issue? Also if the New flashed firmware monitor we recieve is in some way inferior to the previous monitor (for example, banding is fixed but new one now has blur/dead pixels/whatever new problem) will we still be elligable for a new replacement. I know I speak for every single person on this forum when I say we do not want refurbished monitors.
Many of us, myself included are running dangerously close to the 21 day limit. I would realy appreciate hearing back from someone at DELL on this issue.
Thank you for all your hard work on this issue Chris M. It is greatly appreciated by all of us here
Agreed, I haven't seen this much whining since I asked my wife for a divorce!!
I have a 2007 WFP and while I don't see a heck of a lot of problems with it I do see some of the banding stuff mentioned here. That being said, Dell has done enough to satisfy me that it's commited to fixing the situation and I can wait for a solution. I guess if you were dumb enough to list a product for sale on eBay that you didn't have yet then you might consider yourself a bit unlucky

* The 21 day policy is being waived for these monitors with this issue.

* Yes.
I just wanted to let everyone know I got my monitor yesterday 6/1/06. It has almost no banding in VGA (at least not when I comapred it to my Dell E151FP which I don't think has any banding). On DVI there is some banding but it's not nearly as bad as I expected, although I still plan to get it replaced with a fixed model.
Everything else about the monitor is great, I have no other problems and I really REALLY like it. The anti-glare coating is a bit annoying but I'll get over it. Please remember, that although I love this monitor it doesn't mean much for anyone else because I upgraded from a 15-inch Dell E151FP so anything new is a huge improvement.
But anyway, this a great monitor as far as I can tell except for the banding. Picture in picture is great, and the quality of the S-video/composite jacks isn't as bad as I thought it would be, although I probably won't hook my PS2 into it.

He never noticed it until I asked him to run sone test....
Well, for me, the desktop mode banding is ok, but the gaming mode kind of too bad!

I have no problem waiting but thought that this was immediate. I'm ok with it as long as the 21-day return policy isn't in effect.
