Well.. you never know what deals Dell has with "x" person.. think about it. Sometimes sales are happening etc.. just like right now how they gave 1 GB RAM vs 512 standard etc.
Never know. So is it impossible.. no
However.. it should be mentioned that its a software option vs making everything think its the true deal. Cause even WITH the software installed.. its not really a audigy at all! Just something that carries the name of the software.. which yea.. its really kinda bleh..
More like should be labled "Advanced EAX Software from Creative" or something..

davejohn,
Thats a faily rude thing to say imho. Not everyone is well versed in what hardware cost what versus the stock stuff that comes with a system.
I to purchased a rather nice E1705 and opted for the Audigy, and was disappointed when it wasnt the hardware I expected. I would have saved the $25 if I had known it was just software. Keep in mind that the option on the Customization page is: "Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio". That certainly sounds like a hardware upgrade to me.
I agree too.. they make it sound like its the real deal..
I mean when you say "Intergrated Audigy" not ANYTHING sounding like its software.. thats really false advertising.. I mean. Be honest about it and say its software EAX solution for high def audio and I still wouldve bought it.. but least I wouldve known better..
I mean I studied and I knew beforehand it would be software, Still wanted it, however doesnt mean that I am happy about the fact that its suggested to be the real thing.. there is quite a difference in a real audigy vs sigmatel...
Yes, I'm very disappointed. If I knew it's Audigy Sofware, I'd rather save $29 and buy a creative USB sound card instead of upgrading to it. Dell's misleading us!!!
Hey just wanted to bring this new quote from notebookreview forums...
Prime - Call up Dell Customer Care or your sales rep and complain. Not sure if this will help though.
Today, I spoke with 4 different XPS reps (trying to get the best possible price for my M1710 - another post soon on this). I asked each rep to explain the Audigy upgrade for the M1710. Each one initially stated that it is an Audigy Chip.
After relaying the info reported by owners of this 'upgrade', I asked them to confirm with technical staff. Each one placed me on hold for several minutes. They each stated again that the technical staff assured them it was in fact an Audigy chipset.
I then asked each of them if it turned out to be a software overlay for the Sigmatel chip what my recourse would be.
One rep laughed and really wouldnt say anything - she tried to move on to another aspect of my configuration. The other reps all stated that if it turned out to be a driver upgrade that Customer Support would resolve the situation to my satisfaction.
Well, I guess the bottom line here is - the XPS 'trained' sales staff arent well versed in the XPS lappies. LOL
Sounds to me like even Dell reps are saying its a audigy.. I know mine did too from the Dell direct Kiosk.. wasnt till I studied later that I learned before my order was done that it isnt true. So yea.. if Dell phone reps say it is.. when it isnt. Thats really false advertising.
that seems pretty cut and dried that I am getting a HARDWARE audio processor.
Frankly, I would not have paid for a software solution that would probably slow things down, rather than accelerate them.

my Dell order confirmation even says:
SOUND CARD Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio SBAHD [313-4218]
that seems pretty cut and dried that I am getting a HARDWARE audio processor.

Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ HD Software Edition [add $25 or $1/month1]
I read that when configuring my system......it's been there, my system's 4 months old.

For that reason I send an email to Client Service and "fighting" with them I got them to send me a real Sound Blaster Audigy 2.
I noticed that it was refurbished... but it's better than nothing.
I encorage you to do the same... don't be quiet!!!
