Inspiron 6000 using WEP or WPA/WPA2

Question

Have recently taken delivery of an Inspiron 6000 and it's running nicely on the internet using my existing Netgear wireless router. When I view the networks available I see a neighbour running WPA but mine is shown as WEP. A couple of questions: do I need to replace (hardware) or upgrade (software) the router and having done so does the Inspiron already have the WPA capability through Win XP Home SP2. if your router supports wpa then you can switch encryption type as the 6000 wireless card drivers support wpa.
