I guess it depends on game requirements or any application in general ;-)
I haven't plunged heavy games on this monster notebook. This gigantic baby got to go next week (after receiving the new and replacement notebook) so I might as well test the heavy games or applications on this notebook that will be returned to Dell.
Me thinks the E1705/9400 Duo Core is not a hot machine until you get at least the T2500 or T2600 processor. The T2400, to me, is like running a Pentium 630 3.0 GHz.
*I* have the best gaming machine *cough*.. I have the T2600 (and paying for it) . The T2600 spits out fire. Do remove that McAfee firewall. It robs CPU no matter how fast it is.
I *really* hate the fact that Dell does not put the power switch so it is pressable without opening the case, a la Latitude. It is very stupid to have my laptop open alongside my Dell 2405 monitor.
I understand that the processor is able to let you have multi windows on your computer without slowing down.
What I don't get is how it is involved with gaming. I kind of thought the Graphic card alone with Ram and/or memory takes care of that. :smileytongue:
Its funny because i been gaming for years on a regular desktop and I never pay much attention to the Gear it had. I learned that intel graphic cards aren't the best ones to use when it comes to gaming so I got myself a GeForce 4. It was a decent card but I couldn't max out everything because I was afraid of Low power and Heating issues. Plus i had crashes every now and then. Especially with the Simcity 4 Game since that game alone use so much Memory when in play. :smileysad:
Now that Im learning more in the Laptop area, Im starting to understand more on what's best and what's not. Especially on something that interests me the most. Which is Gaming. :smileyvery-happy:
The only thing Im still alittle lost in is the speed.
1)There's the Core Duo processor 2.15GHz or 2.00 or 1.83GHz
2)the speed of the memory like 533Mhz or 667Mhz
3) the Hard Drive 5400Rpm Sata or the 7200rpm Sata
Do any of the three of those play a major part in gaming or none?
I just found this
link - best gaming notebooks that says 3 things needed to have a good gaming notebook.
1. Graphics Card
2. RAM (Memory and Video RAM)
3. Speed of CPU

so you too also got lucky and convinced them to return your full payment w/o restock fee and are making a new system? cool. it will be a long wait but worth it... shoot dell might even make a whole new inspiron line by then.. i heard the ultra portable gaming machine XPS M1210 is coming out soon.... it's 12 inches and has the nvidia 7600 graphics... 17inch is really nice but not too portable. i've been waiting for a long time for a system that plays FFXI and is very portable and has excellent battery life.
I'm surprised! XPS M1210 is being
offered here at Dell Hong Kong. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first XPS system here in Hong Kong. I'm thinking of getting it.. oh my.. I need to work more LOL so I can get money to buy this
small but big performance notebook :D
Why oh why.. only today LOL

i totally lucked out im still in the 21day satisfaction period and they released the 7900 card right after I bought it. Since I bought this computer for gaming and I want the BEST graphics I complained that I wanted that graphics card, not the 7800 - and they are giving me a return w/o restocking fee!!! I will buy a whole new unit that will feature the updated graphics for the same price! Dell will test your patience in these issues as their tech support is frustrating, but I finally got through and I was taken care of. It would have been such a pain to pay $500 to get that card later and then have to sell my 7800 GO on eBay. AWESOME.
Yep you are lucky! I ordered mine in Feb.'06 and it wasn't an option, needless to say I am pass the 21 day period. I just updated the bios to the new MP061A01, one of the enhancements is support for the Nvidia 7900. But $ 379 is a bit steep for me. I'm 55 years old and still gaming, lol. Mine place Half life maxed out with no problems, but you know the feeling when there is something better to be had. Maybe I'll find an outrageous deal on Ebay, yeah right. Too bad Dell doesn't offer a trade in program for us that boought them before they released them with 7900, the time line wasn't that far apart.
I decided im not buying E1705 and im lucky i got my money back, they jacked up the price of the processors!!!! wayyyy too expensive now... no thanks im building a desktop instead... not by choice- but because they are a rip now...
