Inspiron LCD not working

Question

My Inspiron 6000 lcd screen is not working properly.   I can use an external monitor and the system works fine.   Without the external monitor I have an extremly dim screen, with the contrast all the way up I can only see the screen if I shine a flashlight at it or I'm in the sun.   I've checked the video connection to the motherboard to no avail.   Does anyone have any suggestions or do I have to buy a new screen?   Warrantly ran out one month ago, my mistake for not getting the extended warrrantly.

The backlight needs repair - contact an LCD specialist; the cost should be $100-150 or so.
